Utah Jazz 2022—2023 Pre-Season Presser

Post by digiskunk »

As the dust settles and the smoke clears, GM Digiskunk of the Utah Jazz makes his way to the PBSL ring, eager to discuss his plans for the immediate future. With swagger in his step, he patiently approaches the ring, engaging with fans of all sorts of backgrounds. As the sweet theme song of the Utah Jazz eclipses the arena, you can't help but feel inspired by the presence of such a short man who, despite his stature, harbors such a large penis.

As he slides into the ring, Digiskunk quickly rips the microphone out of referee Nick Patrick's hands. The referee, who has been in the wrestling business long enough, knows when to get out of the ring, and he does so accordingly. Digiskunk clearly has a message he wants to speak directly to the people of Utah, as few as they may be.

Digiskunk: WELCOME, FRIENDS AND FOES ALIKE, to the UTAH JAZZ PRESS CONFERENCE OF 2022. Unlike seasons prior, in which we'd half-ass it, this time we're going to invest our stock in shocking the world by winning the PBSL/SLOE Finals Championship. And tonight, we're going to outline how we plan on accomplishing such a task.

Image

Digiskunk: It wasn't our initial plan to overtake this league by brute force — no, you see, this has been carefully constructed and strategized for years ahead of time. We've scouted these players, tracked their progress, and implemented their abilities according to their roles. The past few seasons were a bust for us, simply because we were unable to win the finals. However, after a poor showing in the playoffs last season (insert sad face here), we hope to redeem ourselves by winning it all this season. And if we don't? Well... Let's not get into that.

Image

Digiskunk: Although we had a good season last year, we came up short. So of course, it goes without saying that you need to make some changes, right? I mean that only comes naturally when you're developing a team of youngsters, especially if they're anxious to win it all. But it's important to remain vigilant and keep your eye on the prize: the Finals title. And that's exactly what we're aiming for this year!

Last year, we traded Iman Shumpert, Kyle Lowry, and Brian Starks in exchange for C.J. McCollum, who we believe will be a great spot-up shooter who can play both the shooting guard and small forward positions. Since "Juicy" James has been familiarized at SF, it'll be easy for them to operate together — that's the theory, at least. THat's the god*amn f*ckin theory at least.

During the offseason, our primary plan was simple: Improve upon our youth whilst adding some veterans who could provide some quality minutes off the bench. During unrestricted free agency, we managed to acquire impeccable athletes such as JULIUS "NO HANDLES" RANDLE, Reggie Jackson, and Brandon Jennings. Despite a poor training camp for the latter two, we feel as if we've come out stronger than ever, and are more than willing to show how strong we are on the basketball court. Just take a look at Julius Randle — the dude can pick up like 200lbs of asbestos-infested wood and carry it the length of a football field. Think you can do that without any health maladies? Try again, sucka.

As of this moment we have a cast of stars-in-the-making. At least that's my opinion and, quite frankly, if you disagree, you're a failure at life and not a true hooper. Like that? No? Well then ask questions, biotch.

We'll now be taking questions from the press. The "pump up/hype video" can be found below. And yes, you're goddamn welcome.

Julius Randle had an impressive camp. Has he earned a starting spot?

Who poses the biggest threat to you getting the the Finals? If you make it to the Finals, what team are you expecting to be there?

Finally, how many games will you win your division by?

Do you feel confident that Brandon Jennings and Joseph Hammond can give you quality minutes at backup point guard?

In pre-season, we saw Joel Embiid start over Andre Drummond. Does this continue into the season, and if so, what role will Drummond play?

Being the most expensive team in the league, what are some ways you're looking to alleviate your tax burden for the upcoming season ahead?

Your team brought in CJ McCollum during the offseason, do you feel he will bring enough offense to the team to bring home a championship?

The Jazz have an impressive starting 5 and great depth at the 4 and 5 positions. Do you think there's enough depth at the 1, 2, and 3 to make a deep run into the playoffs?

I'm glad you took notice! After Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings took hits in training camp, it was vital that Julius Randle had a productive one. Fortunately for his, he developed immensely, and because of that, he has most definitely brought himself into the discussion when it comes to our starting lineup. In all honesty, we don't know what our starting lineup is going to look like come opening day, but hopefully it'll be SCARY.

Good question! Since the Bucks won, I think it's only fair to suggest that they pose the biggest threat. We're talking about a team who went from rebuilding to league champs in almost the span of a season or two; there's no reason why they should be underestimated. Aside from the Bucks, the Bulls, Suns, and Kings also come to mind. They always seem to kick our ass.

Also, I hope that we win our division by at least 3 games.

Oh, most definitely! When we acquired both Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings, we were especially delighted because we realized we had two nearly identical offensive threats. We doubt you'll see Joseph Hammond receiving many minutes, though, barring any unforeseen events or injuries. Right now, it's going to be Brandon Jennings who will be backing up J.R. Johnson.

Nah! You see a lot of goofy shit in preseason and that was one of them. HOWEVER, after taking a look at Embiid's numbers, I'm starting to really reconsider everything. Expect him to play more minutes than last season though!

Hmmm, donating plasma

Also, maybe taking the hit and paying the tax like a GOOD AMERICAN does.

Although we loved having Iman Shumpert on the team, it became clear that we needed an upgrade at the shooting guard position. Being able to trade him, Kyle Lowry, and Brian Stark — almost all of them expiring contracts (excluding Stark) — for CJ was a dream come true. Shumpert provided elite defense, but CJ provides elite offense, and his ability to play multiple positions doesn't hurt us, neither. We're going to get really creative with our lineup this season, so get ready for some potentially funky stuff

Oh, most definitely. In fact, I think we have so much depth, we can afford to get incredibly creative with our starting lineup this season.

J.R. Johnson opened a lot of eyes last season as he continued to develop into a fine starting point guard. Although he's not a scoring machine, he doesn't have to be when you already have that in James Gebhart, CJ McCollum, and Joseph Kight. Nevertheless, Johnson nearly tallied a few triple-doubles last season, which is definitely awesome and noteworthy. It apparently inspired the team, because they played immensely well whenever he was on the floor.

After training camp, we were really stunned by the amount of progress that James Gebhart has made. He's going to have so much fun with CJ McCollum out there. They'll be switching positions, sharing the ball, perhaps sharing wives — you name it.

To follow up on an earlier question, who do you see getting the majority of the minutes at backup SF?

Very good question! Right now, we're not entirely sure, to be honest -- all we know is that we're going to be rotating guys a lot, giving a lot of guys some time to play different positions.

If you had to pick one, what is the most important single attribute or skill of any lone player on your team?
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind.

No lie, I think it may be Andre Drummond's post defense and rebounding ability. If it wasn't for having him anchor the paint, teams would just run all over us. He really is the biggest piece to this puzzle, if you ask me.
