How would you describe your NPBSL activity?
How do you invest most of your energy?
What do you find most interesting or entertaining?
What is more of a chore, but necessary for competing?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 7

Some *cough* @greepleairport *cough* would call me a LIGHTNING ROD for sim league. I either attract controversy, cause it, or help continue it along its controversial path. lol But seriously, I've been way more engaged since this rebirth of NPBSL than i was when I was running train on the old league in its waning years. The exception is last couple seasons maybe when life was just overall chaotic in May, June & July.... ironically I went to the Finals in both seasons. lol But I like to invest my energy in a similar response to the last Town Hall (5).. in DISCORD. I feel like that has done such a good job at maintaining my engagement and keeping me invested in the game & community, as well as being a great place to further friendships & make new ones through sim league.

But on the boards, I am trying to get more involved in media through the 5-on-5s and podcasts when I can. I enjoy when I have the time to sit down and deep dive something, but lately that time is few and far between. Chore stuff... Sometimes the Pressers feel like a chore... and the points calculation.. But both are necessary to keep things afloat in the league (and to allow you to train/trade)!

1. Probably “too involved.”
2. Chat With a Cat.
3. Team building, both my own and analyzing what makes other teams good (or not).
4. Trade offers. I think a lot of teams fear “losing” a trade and act like real life Danny Ainge, afraid to pull the trigger on any trade that isn’t obviously lopsided in their favor. It’s also sometimes hard to read what teams want when all you get back is “no thanks.” A sentence or two about * why* you don’t like a deal and what could make it better (or even a realistic counteroffer) would be helpful, some teams even do that in their trade blocks (thank you to those who do!) It always annoyed me when I was commissioner that I would get 15 ridiculous lowball offers for a star, I would offer the same star to 5 other teams for what I felt was similar value and get “not interested” then when that player hit FA I would see 20 max offers. Apparently people WERE interested, they just didn’t want to, you know, give up anything (I know, I know, “if something is free there is a line.”) I do think the Negotiator ought to publicize all FA bids after they are processed and players decide (I.e., publish all FA day 1 bids after running FA day 1) because it is super hard to tell which players are valued and FA bids would give some indication.

I think I spend way too much energy and time doing recon and making trade offers.
If you have a player on your team that I see value in, you probably already know exactly how much or little I value them.
I try to track where every team is heading, and which assets might become available before they get shipped for a bucket of slime.
I have been doing Town Hall for a few seasons, and I try to participate in the pick ems.
I always tell myself to write some media articles, but never do.
Mostly don't post memes either even though I imagine they're low hanging fruit for points that I need.
I do have to echo appreciation for the discord.
It's good entertainment and I appreciate how it is organized.
I can browse the channels according to my interest levels.
And it humors me consistently.
Thanks to the regulars for all the chatter.

How would you describe your NPBSL activity?
Active on sim days, ghost the rest of the week.

How do you invest most of your energy?
I talk strategy with AB and jlmarines, look at the index on sim days, and listen to the podcasts on the commute home.

What do you find most interesting or entertaining?
My favorite part of sim league is the strategy of the game. It's always been a fun part of the competition for me. I like matching wits with the other GMs and while I've not had much success in the new league so far it's been fun to play against some of the oldheads since they were not around when I joined the original league and it's nice to see their energy and enthusiasm for the game.

What is more of a chore, but necessary for competing?
Actively participating in media. Pressers, memes, and even writing/podcasting there are a lot of point grabs available but I just have not tried yet in the new league.

How would you describe your NPBSL activity?
As far as activity, I would rank myself near the higher end. Maybe top five.

How do you invest most of your energy?
I’m not involved I think in the conventional way. I don’t really scope out the other teams as much as other GMs. My activity centers around memes, articles, and that sort of engagement. I have always enjoyed memeing about what’s going on in the league or writing an article about something I find interesting. I’m also, almost always, a coordinator of something to both get points and to have something else to do.

What do you find most interesting or entertaining?
The memes. It’s always where I’ve been most active and other than the actual game, find the most enjoyment.

What is more of a chore, but necessary for competing?
The coordinator spots can be quite the chore at times. Where I will get tired of the counting points for votes, or doing pickem results for example. It’s ok for a while, but gets monotonous over time.

I am chaotic with the occasional string of empathy, much like normal life. I like to act a fool, but make sure we're all still good. If I'm talking to Doug, it's all boner and whack it talk, with the occasional sydney sweeney (before she cancelled herself with her jeans) or aubrey plaza (who cannot be cancelled) meme/gif. If i'm talking to LTS, I try not to because his ideas/offers drive me insane, but on a second crack of trying to talk sim league we have great chats. Just gotta work through whatever opening salvo madness, first.

I invest all of my energy into winning until winning is clearly off the table. Then I relax and take in the rest of sim league. Culture, convos, discords, vibes, etc. I actually have more fun doing this than trying to win a 'ship, because i usually don't.

Gary is the most entertaining.

Counting memes and assessing presser engagement is more of a chore (sometimes pick'em if i'm doing really poorly, like last season when i had to stop), but necessary for engagement and the volunteer points. I'd gladly cede this responsibility at any point if anyone is interested, though, and explore different responsibilities.
Somehow I manage.

I am notoriously an inactive member. I've always been big on not needing points. I like letting the game decide who is the best each year. I was originally against the need for points and paid training. Let people get better through TC and let leg breaks nerf a random player every few years. For me, it kept me as interested as the next person who had time to devote to Sim League. Without the points for articles, people that only had time to submit DCs, draft, and do free agency could still compete.

My activity since we reset has increased tremendously. I'm answering town halls, doing pick 'ems, running articles, and devoting time throughout the whole week to this. The main reason for this increase in activity is because it is very hard to compete unless you are really active. People training players while others don't train gives the former an advantage. I have a team that I feel can really compete if healthy, so I'm doing the work it takes to truly compete.

At times it all feels like a chore. At times I enjoy most aspects of the game. It all depends on what I am doing in my real life. At the end of the day, it's all about how much involvement each owner really wants to do. I'm good with how it is now. Its just the way it is. And I've adjusted my involvement how I needed to. When I no longer have a team to compete, I may end up with less activity again.

Clearly my activity has been up and down. Really depends on what's going on with work, definitely effed myself a couple of times by going too hard into some sim analysis (that never even ended up coming to be). I've tried to do some cool power rankings stuff, but it takes so much time, I've spent like probably 10 hours on it this year for no end product or points. The rest of the time I spend looking at other rosters and seeing where teams are at/if there's a mutual fit for a trade.

Honestly, I feel like I've been running at 75% max for a long time now. I can put a plan and a team together, but I struggle to put in energy everywhere else.
Mike Lowry wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 11:34 pmHow do you invest most of your energy?
Teambuilding and theorycrafting. I'm always crawling through the index, looking at ratings, tendencies, potentials, efficiency, etc. to not just see what I may need, but to see what other teams may need or could use.
Mike Lowry wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 11:34 pmWhat do you find most interesting or entertaining?
It's fun seeing how things unfold. Who breaks out, who flops, which franchises/GMs build legacies, etc. It's watching an alternate version of history play out that isn't totally random and unrealistic like 2K.

Writing articles and presser. You can't always count on generating points through team performance or trades, but points are THE single most important resource for seriously competing. So if you're not doing any of the extracurricular stuff we offer, you're only making things harder on yourself. Writing articles and pressers are probably the two biggest "bang for your buck" things, but writing takes time and effort
