S70 Town Hall #2: "Fly with me, Lesbian Seagull"

Post by MexicanMamba »

Though you may be tempted to feel low after your sim 1 results, let's try to take a positive approach and spread our wings and fly high, soaring through the skies! Tell us three THREE positive things about sim 1. They can all 3 be about your team if you want (but at least 1 should be), or you can talk about positive things you saw on other squads or league-wide. Just be positive!

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 2 deadline.

Firstly I’m shocked about getting two wins. That’s way better than I was expecting and a good start to the season considering my team was ranked dead last in power rankings. Second the team defense is a lot better than it should be. Being ranked third in the league for lowest points allowed with a team that has zero blue currents is an accomplishment. Hopefully it lasts the rest of the season. The last thing is Charlie Dimaggio is playing just as good as he did in the preseason and is averaging 20 points with 2.8 blocks which is definitely going to have him in the running for Most Improved Player this season.

It's one sim, so I'm not gonna do too much, but I was a little annoyed by all the curiosity at my presser about why someone would target the guys I did and pay them money.
I already dove on a sword about Dejuan Baker, that was a huge mistake!
Everybody else came in doing exactly what I expected them to do:
Miami Heat lowest turnover % in the league.
2 -3 start, dog walked by the Bulls and Pistons as should have been expected, 2 -1 against teams that are measuring sticks for me in the Kings, Wolves, and Wiz.
Played tough in a losing effort in Washington.
Antonio Blakeney 22 pts/gm
Markus Ridenhour 11 pts to go with his 8 ast, 5 boards, and 2.5 steals
James Orozco 19 pts, 6 boards, 2.8 ast, 1.4 blocks
We're gonna compete, or we're going to get good return on real win now depth pieces.
I'm happy either way.

1. First and foremost, the biggest plus about sim 1 for me is that I didn't have to do anything. Big ups to Nate for taking the commissioner spot and running with it. You're doing a great job.

2. It's only a 5 game sample size, but it's really nice to see the team performing up to my hopes for them. You never know if sim 1 is real or not, but I'll take 4-1 with this team over a mediocre start from a team with better talent. The biggest difference this season is the three point shot, and my team didn't disappoint there. In the first 5 games, Bulls are .487 from beyond the arc as a team with the most attempts per game. Their opponents are .271. I know that level's gonna come down to earth a little more. Safi, Mac, and TM III are all above 50% from beyond the arc. Gerald Bordeaux, our garbage-time C/PF is a perfect 7/7 from downtown this season.

3. It's nice to have Pick 'Em and Sim Vegas back. I like seeing a lot of the new folks starting to step up and take on roles and integrate themselves within the league. I've gotten some pretty good trade offers and had some better trade talks in several seasons based on newer dudes approaching me with offers that made sense. These aren't really about the sim itself, but if that's a technicality of the question, maybe I'll at least win a Jib Jab

I'm gonna hit on a couple of things from the previous answers because I think there's great stuff from all 3: It's nice to see the Bobcats outplay even their own expectations. Having even defensive success with a team that, on the surface, doesn't look like much, and winning some games too, is pretty rad.

Next, I told Mike Lowry in the presser that Baker had performed pretty well in preseason, but it looks like he's benched now. I'd just like to reiterate that I don't think this is as bad a signing on the surface! The length and $$price are probably the primary concern, but while he's got him and trying to determine how good he is? I'd encourage him to start Baker for a sim. Lost color isn't always lost talent...only one way to find out.

Also, I think it should be highlighted that @Black Superman has done a bang up job in his first offseason and congrats on holding schedule all the way up to sim 1. Your leadership never left a doubt that things would get done and that the sim would go on. Thank you big time on behalf of everyone, myself included, as well as those who haven't thanked you personally yet.

NOW warriors stuff, we don't totally suck. We have a small sample size of games but are tied with last year's conference finals champs the Nuggets and ahead of a demonstrably better team in the mavericks. I presume it's only a matter of another sim or 2 before I fall down the rankings and these teams leap, but for now it's fun.

Oh! And let's hear it for the 30+ somethings http://pbsl.ijbl.net/boxes/box20-4.htm
Wemby and Looney SMOKED Nick and Bre, good christmas...!

1. The first thing I am excited about is that I beat the Grizz this sim. I know that may not be saying a lot, however I was expecting to not be good this year, while I thought they would be great. IDK... I beat the Grizz, now I need to beat the Cavs.

2. Antonio Gates looks great. The dude is lights out on both sides of the court currently. He is averaging 23 points, almost 11 rebounds, over two steals. He is shooting a .484 with a .550 3 point percentage. This guy is a stud at PF and is way better then Isaac.

3. Young Talent. First is Alcindor Lew. The guy went purple first off which is exciting because I always thought he would be a really good player. He also is shooting 18.3 points with a percentage of .531. Booger is also playing well out the gate. He is sixth in steals, while getting 15 ppg with good shooting percentages as well.

1. I am super happy that we are 2-5. My tanking while not tanking plans are working. It helps when your roster is poor.
B. Lewis shooting split are off the charts. Definitely going to be playing him more minutes going forward so that he can be more in contention with league leaders. He's just not getting the volume of shots up because of pace. But 50-90-60 is wild! Even if only for a 7 game stretch.
3. No one is undefeated and this is a glorious thing. Parity is a great thing in sports. And while no one believes the pistons are not going to repeat. It's gotta feel good after the first sim for other teams to see that they are in the running....even if only for the first sim.

1. Tennessee Rainwater - Rainwater was the player of the week in Sim 1! Nice job youngblood. He is the future of this franchise and is going to make AngryBanana regret passing on him in the draft every sim for the next decade.

2. Joaquin McCabe - this man is making the most of his opportunity this season as the starting PG. He has bounced around the league for a few seasons now but it is always fun to see guys who are constantly overlooked get a chance to shine.

3. Memphis fans - a loyal, dedicated fanbase deserves to be rewarded. The Grizzlies went 3-1 at home this past sim. The Grizzlies want to show their appreciation for the best fans in the game. Every game in Memphis will be tough. Our fans understand the assignment.

Three positives from Sim 1:

Number A: While 3-3 is nothing to write home about, it definitely is a good start for my team. Especially considering this was the highest offensive output my team has had since I joined the league. Besides points being the major difference between me and my opponents this sim, I was either better or the same in assists, rebounds, steals, turnovers, and 3P%. Just need to tighten up on defense and commit less fouls and this team could be on its way to doing some damage this season.

Number B: Tony Lee. That's it. Still a lot of season left but for a young guy like him finally becoming B/B and then starts off averaging 24pts/game makes me really excited to see where he will be in the next year or two. Not only were his points up, but every other category was up from last season. Again, a lot of games left to go but it is encouraging to see him get off to a great start.

Number C: Holy hell the Rockets gave up an average of 86 points/game?!?! With only 1 game over 100 points and 3 games under 80 points. That right there is an impressive start and while that type of defensive output is likely not sustainable, it's still really impressive to see such a level of domination by them. Really interested to see how the rest of the season goes for them.

The league is healthier than ever. We have so many active GMs. The stories and presser were on point. We got Town Halls, Vegas and Pick'um. I mean the Memes are to plentiful we had to cap them. The New GMs have really jumped fully in.

The league seems to want to create more parity and faster builds, flips, and tear down, we just haven't figured out how to effectively do it. Identifying a way to improve the league is the first step.

The Wizards being good. They deserve it more than anyone. The constantly put up teams that are competitive and they try to win every season. I hope they dominate the Silky Johnson Division and make a deep playoff run.

Lastly it was fun to see a nice guy like @greepleairport laying the smack down my puck ass questions

Oh and @Black Superman is awsome and he know why ;) (Even if we never make a trade, which is almost for sure my fault).

#1
The Toronto Raptors are leading the league in forcing turnovers. Feisty ones we are. I like their aggressiveness this season. I know winning the turnover the battle every game will lead to more wins down the road.

#2
Our three-point shooting is nuts so far. We have never embraced that identity before so it is really cool to see them stretch the court so effectively after one sim. It definitely makes for a more entertaining team to watch.

#3
Andrew Shockey is a draft night steal. The 2nd rounder got a boost during training camp and is playing well off the bench this season. I am going to try and find more ways to incorporate his scoring touch into the lineup as the roster shakes out.

1. Devin Vassell is finally a purple potential player. Many points have been invested on Vassell. I'm really excited for the future. Vassell didn't disappoint. He average 31 points a game. He's a dog.

2. Cavs offense is a powerhouse. Cavs are averaging 120 pts a game, which makes us one of the top teams on the offensive side. Vassell and Isaac are going to score alot of points this year.

3. PG Joaquin "El Chapo" Loera, is making a statement in the league. First time starting and he's already averaging almost 10 assists per game. El Chapo is only 23 years old. El Chapo is going to be a solid PG in the league.

Hmmmm....Positive things about Sim 1...

1. I am the current leader in the division after 1 sim at 4-3, hard to complain when you are on top.
2. 3rd in the league in Points Scored, which is always a good thing. Can't win games if you don't score.
3. I get to go back to playing my little golden prince in Lindsey this sim, to see how the team looks. Tried out Markham, who should've been better in that position but we struggled in some areas we haven't before so I'm going back to the basics.

1. The most entertaining thing about sim 1 for the Lakers is the fact that my 6th man is leading the team in scoring. Sure, Dennis Funkhouser is only the 6th man due to silly roster trickery by me but it's still fun to see. He's also the 6th man while averaging the most minutes on the team. Averaging nearly 20 points with 10 assists, 5 rebounds and 2.8 steals while also leading the team in 3P% is wonderful.

2. Fabian Hub, all 31 years of him, coming out again as a Laker Swiss Army Knife is also cool. I bet on him in UFA due to his ridiculous athleticism as a big man, assuming that it'll mean he ages far more gracefully than most players in his situation. After 1 sim and averages of 17.9 - 9 - 4.4 - 1.4 - 1.6 while being eligible to play positions 2-5 (and starting at SF), has so far proven me right.

3. I'll echo someone else's thought that the league feels very healthy at the moment, even with 1 stewarded team. We'll likely never get everyone super active at once, but it's great seeing newer GMs working the league, asking questions, learning and engaging. Maybe ill start sending more trade offers to ya'll 🫣

I signed him to flip him.
I certainly believe that when his turn comes up he's going to produce at a high level,
but it makes more sense to showcase Ridenhour and Garland first,
as they are the easier pieces to move.
I think they will all perform at a similar level with different strengths.
When Garland gets his turn I'll likely get more assists and when Baker gets his more points.
Just trying to move product out here.
First one on me.

1. Charley Quick is earning his Superman right away. 32-11 is a superstar in this league. His ability is going to carry this team as fast as it can go this season.

2. Chet Stephens is a nice surprise. Now I wish I had signed him for longer. This team lacked any sort of rim protection last season and now he has over 2 blocks a game on 24 minutes. A great addition.

3. The Wizards only played 4 games so as of right now, we are tied for number of wins in the season for our division. Obviously this is not the right outlook but hey we’re being positive.
