S50 Magic Hour

Post by false9 »

Hola amigos. We’re back and the preseason presser is crappier than ever!

Last time we were here, I said to expect a lot of losses. Boy, was I right- we stumbled our way to a 4-37 start. With an eye towards next season, and wanting to avoid the odious distinction of 70 losses, I pulled off some trades midseason and brought in Jules Harms and Matthew O'Connor. After the trade deadline, the team was competent enough to be a .500 team, but still good enough to tie for the fourth worst record.

Our fingers were crossed for the lottery, but we dropped to fifth. Not having a shot at the best prospect, I knew it was time to go in a different direction. We dealt the pick away and welcomed Rod Pastor back to Orlando. We also took on the salary of Dom Cobb for more outside shooting, and brought back Ronnie Reynolds on a superma, Jules on a sizable contract, and Candelaria on the MLE. While we focused on win now moves, one opportunity was too hard to pass up. Dealing away Kostas and Shank for Alex Caruso was a trade for three seasons from now.

So what the hell does all this mean for the upcoming season? I'm not really sure- there's probably enough talent (and payroll) here to be a playoff team, and the power poll seems to agree. I'm sure there will be some gameplan changes along the way, and maybe I'm not done dealing yet.

I'll take your questions now.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Tres Trinkle got hit in training camp and immediately got jettisoned, costing you some points in the process. Why were you so quick to dump him rather than waiting to see if he either bounced back or could provide you some value in a trade before the trade deadline?

Huh, looks like he had a nice preseason. We wish him well Atlanta and whatever destination Louie ships him off to next.

Post TC, I was exploring a lot of trades to deal with the overflow of centers. So part of it was having clear roster spots for a potential trade. I was also considering playing the stash game with waivers, since I knew I'd have a good claim position. One trade did not work out as planned, but a surprising one developed in its place.

In hindsight, I could have waited until day 60 and tried some sales pitches the next 3 sims. I'm not sweating it though.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: With Boban now a Y/Y, the core of your magic dynasty is now truly starting to head towards their curtain call. Do you think you have the parts on your team to create a match for one of those teams from that time period ?

Honestly, no. That was a special group and it turns out it's not easy to put together a team that has three straight seventy win seasons!

I'd settle for a team that can consistently make deep playoff runs. I have big expectations for Tex and Ronnie, and I think the Caru-show will develop in time.

Which player on your team do you believe is primed for a breakout season?

While I'm expecting "more" from Reynolds, I don't know that there will be a huge scoring increase. The additions of Cobb and Pastor will probably result in a tad lower usage, but I am expecting him to be more efficient.
