S49 Magic Hour

Post by false9 »

Hello, friends. We’re back again and less clever than ever.

Image

Let’s begin with a short recap of last season.

At this time last year, I said the team would be lucky if we had a first round playoff exit. Well, it turns out we weren’t lucky- we didn’t even make the playoffs despite a competent 43 win season. But in a way, I’m glad it happened. This was a clear message the group I’d assembled wasn’t going to amount to what I wanted- a championship team. It was time to blow it up.

After shopping around, Richard Hunt and Joshua Schumann were sent off to title contenders. In came Kostas Antetokoumpo, Tres Trinkle, Bradley Connell, Titus Edmonson, and John Rainbolt. We also rolled the dice on some project players in free agency, and we had some pleasant surprises. Except poor Darin Tirado, but at least he’s on a tiny contract.

So what do I expect this season? LOSSES, AND LOTS OF ‘EM. I do expect Reynolds and Harrison to take a leap in production, and I’ll be showcasing Rainbolt (PM me!), but this is a young group. Hopefully, we can get some more dealing done this season and consolidate some assets. But, it does feel like a relief this season to be starting over.

Our starting five to open the season:

C- Shank
PF- Kostas
SF- Reynolds
SG- Tex
PG- Rainbolt

I’ll open the floor to your questions.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: The Magic went 2-4 in preseason without playing your two best players in Ronnie Reynolds and Tex Harrison. We've seen Magic teams before that well outperformed expectations. What kind of start would it take for Magic management to give up on patience and try to cash back in?

Random Reporter: Between Reynolds, Trinkle, and Connell, there seems to be a bit of a logjam out on the wing. With Connell needing to prove himself in a contract year, how do you see the wing rotation playing out? Is this just a temporary issue until Tex is able to slide over to PG full-time?

Unless we're undefeated after 3 sims with a double digit point differential (insert joker crazy laugh here), I plan on remaining patient. I would like to put together some of the younger players for something more substantial, but the plan is to stay patient.

Hopefully we can get Rainbolt in a more of a win now situation- once that's resolved, expect Reynolds at PG this season and more minutes to open up for Trinkle and Connell at the wings. Long term, Tex may ultimately be the solution at PG, but there's plenty of time to sort that out.

You benched your best players in the preseason as well as I did. Yet you got 2 wins and I got 1. Do you think you're better than me?

Also, as you rebuild, are you looking for any position in particular, or testing the market to see what you like?
Somehow I manage.

Any chance we see Kostas play SG either this season or later?

I expect you to go deep into the playoffs, and I plan to be deep into sim-cation.

I'm always about the best player available- the roster seems pretty flexible at the moment. A true center would be great, but that's as rare as true point guards these days.

Expect that "SG" to change to "PF" after a few sims. Anytime you shoot less threes than Daniel Yandell, you ain't no guard.
