I'm going to kill this idea...both ideas. Bringing back awards and sim vegas, we're already reintroducing more points in an era where the average roster is much more stacked due to training. There's no increase in the amount of teams in tax jail and it's pretty hard to do that on accident. This signals to me that this is happening because we have enough points as it is. I don't want to add 75 more into the mix.
Well maybe we should look at points being handed out with those (new arbitrary awards and 6 way ties for 1st place in sim Vegas). I feel like looking into those areas to reduce points and cut some fat while rewarding people for trying to be competitive and trying for the playoffs couple be a good balance?
I think that's going to happen. I think Sim Vegas is going to need tiebreakers this year, and awards voting was highly incentivized because low participation led to its retirement. I'd advise peeling back the participation points a little bit there. I don't think we have a problem with the playoffs being incentivized/tanking. When I look at the teams that were in the lotto, I see a few teams who are logically rebuilding (Timberwolves, Trailblazers, Heat--though even they went after some win-now players in free agency and held onto them) a couple stewarded teams (or teams that should be stewarded--Hawks, Pistons), some teams that weren't trying to tank and made some win now moves in free agency (and the season). that just didn't pan out (Jazz, Cavs, Rockets, Nuggets, 76ers, Magic--2 had even traded their picks) and a team that wasn't outright tanking but had to sell to get out of the repeater tax (Knicks).
And at least coming from the awards perspective, I just tossed those out those random ones at the end there because I remembered that TV had a recordbook which kept track of arbitrary records like that so I thought why not give a +1 for those categories since they arent really stats that anyone can game to their advantage.
As a new guy looking in now, I think the league has hit a pretty good sweet spot in terms of participation for something that has been running for over a few [real] years now. For the most part we have 100% participation during the offseason with the draft and free agency and ~50% with the day-to-day during the reg season with DCs, pressers, memes, sim vegas, awards, and even voting on proposition changes like this one will probably see down the road
So yeah, I wouldnt mind if participation points were removed from awards for example because it was the same dozen or so people that are already getting points doing sim vegas, pressers, media stuff anyways because they have an active interest in accumulating points for player training and/or paying the taxman every season.
