Pacers Preseason Ponderings 1980-81

Post by PaulyP »

PaulyP sits in a dimly lit room filled with the stench of a dozen Marlboro reds, he stares longingly at a photo of himself, Dan Spooner, and Herbert Jones at a team hot tub party---the stalwarts of the now defunct PBSL Pacers in the alternate future timeline
One solemn tear rolls down his face as he stands and puts his ugly sports coat on and trudges out to meet the press

I have been a GM for 70+ seasons. I've had countless great players, great teams but throughout the years the ultimate prize has continued to elude my grasp. The acknowledgement for that brief moment of time that you are the absolute best. That thing that all competitors crave...the championship....and that MAKES ME SICK!

I promise the people of Indianapolis that this time will be different, I will build you a team that you can have pride in, a team that a blue collar community such as yourselves deserve!
Our team will attack the rim with the intensity of a medieval siege!... and then get to the FT line
Our team is made up of hard men who crash the glass! We didnt even bother to attempt one of those pussy 3pt shots in the preseason. The 3pt line is for cowards and cowards dont wear the Pacers shirt

Our goals for the season are to win the conference and crack a few skulls doin it!
camera pans to Kermit Washington who smirks and nods

Mike Royko, Chicago Tribune: I see from your hot tub picture that you use whatever means necessary for player upkeep. Are you following the water bed craze that has started to pick up in recent years and has the team purchased those for the players?

With a seeming need for a point guard in the future, are you looking to work the trade market this year to find the missing piece?

Sorry for the cigarette smoke.....Herb Jones was one was the great of the past timeline. What did he say to you when you decided to leave and come to this timeline?

With JBC and Dantley being you current best players on your team do you plan to make a push this season or will this be a feel out season for your organization?

League sources said that in the odd number rounds, the Indiana Pacers chose violence by stealing polaroid pictures of the Buck's draft board. Is this true? Are you trying to rekindle the old rivalries of the original timeline 90s?

Moses Malome, Bay Area News Group: Did you have any parting words for Dan Spooner or Herbert Jones?

Water beds like in those new porno movies?? Im starting to feel seasick

Doubtful. I admittedly dont value the pure point guard skillset over the pure scorer at this point of time

What does a Father say to his son when he goes out to the corner store and never come back? Herb is missed my fave sim player of all time

I think we can compete now especially with the level of scoring we have, I feel like we can go toe to toe with anyone

I cannot confirm nor deny any espionage in lieu of potential fines from the commissioners office, have you seen these salaries?? This is extortion. Quail and his teams have been a consistent pain in my ass for seasons and seasons it'd be nice to be the one laying down the wood this time around

No words, just a very sensual group hug.
Dan Spooner was the chosen one it was hard to leave him behind when I voted for time travel
