S69 Town Hall #8: Big Hug

Post by Black Superman »

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 8 deadline.

Who's your favorite GM. Do you love their moves and approach to the game? Maybe they are your favorite trade destination? Is it because they have the best game talk? Are they a mentor and give you good game advice? Give someone a shout-out.

So I'm not going to say MexicanMamba as that would be too obvious. He's one of best friends in real life.

I think my favorite GM would have to be greeple. We've built this playful respectful environment. Where we start off mentioning sim league and then we end up just joking and laughing about stuff. He's given me a refreshing light hearted mind to chat with from the owners group. We've done a trade or two over the years. He's doesn't usually work with me though. Definitely hate him for that. I'll give him a pass since at least he's down to chat for a little while about regular stuff after he's shut me down.

Honorable mention would be Garbageman. Definitely my favorite sim brain to pick. I definitely come to him with all ideas and thoughts.

Love this question! Hard to pick favorites. I love shootin' the breeze with you too @Black Superman

Contrary to what I usually post, I love the wildness @LazyTitanSmash has brought to sim league. Never a message without controversy. Never a move without serious consequence. Never an article without making me want to scream a little bit. Sim league is all about engagement, and LTS is at an all time high. All the sim studying he's done since joining the league is starting to pay off and he has really come out of his shell. You love to see it. Every LTS post I see I read immediately, and there aren't too many other GMs today where I do that (miss you @drkavarga ).

But again, favorite? I don't think I can pick one. I love talking strategy with @MexicanMamba , I loved any occasion I had to talk deals or sim whatever with @Eazy P , I truly feel that @garbageman has insight into this game like no other - and a unique way of sharing that knowledge that never boils down to 'you should do THIS' because he always highlights pos and neg to every move...

Everyone's favorite slime king, @IamQuailman , I mean, we haven't talked sim much lately, but maybe we should, because someone is coming for his slime crown and gaining speed. They are likely headed for a blockbuster playoff showdown later this year... but anyway, we talk dirty. It's cute.

I have to go to work otherwise I'd mention more. Love you guys
Somehow I manage.

@AngryBanana brought me into the league and works with me a lot on developing my team. We do not agree often, but he answers all my questions with a lot of patience. He is a great mentor.

Ok. If Gary isn’t your answer then you are wrong. When he is active, he is the most entertaining person to communicate with. He will take the trade talks you have, detour about how he saw bums taking shrooms, then counter with his offer.

If it’s not Gary, then other than the obvious answers of Josh and Roberto, I would say haggling with Doug is always fun. We have done some deals in our times, but I still remember us fighting over a point for like 20 mins while I was on the subway for the Antonio Blakeney for Zaire Wade deal we did back a few years ago.

I'm not going to answer this question in terms of who's my favorite to talk to, or who I like to work with the most. I'm going to go at this from a pure "Who's GM game do I like this most?" If I didn't do it that way, it'd just be a big circle jerk of the folks I talk to on the reg (you know who you are).

And even then, I'm gonna narrow it down to two answers that are wildly different from each other.

1. K-100: What this guy does is fun to watch. He's always doing some unconventional stuff and making it work. Whether he's spamming the tax bill to put a superteam together or putting a playoff DC in that gives his opponent fits because it works when it shouldn't, he's always ready to try something new and innovative...and that's AFTER he's learned the game in a conventional way. A lot of GMs just do stupid shit because they don't know the industry standard, but K-100 keeps it interesting and innovative.

2. PaulyP: Though he's one of the quieter GMs on the boards, if you PM him, he's gonna respond quickly and also be willing to work. He fields smart teams, never goes overboard, and always does his GM-work in the proper way as indicated on the board. From alphabetizing TCs to immaculate depth charts, he has never made this game more of a pain in the ass to run for the commissioner, and with so many rules and standards about how to post all the different things you have to post here, there aren't many people at all who can say that.

I going a different direction too.

I miss @IamQuailman. Those trade offers were crazy as hell but they were fun to talk about. Now that I kinda know what I'm doing, thoses crazy trade offers would be a lot of fun to haggle with. I have found that a lot of GM don't really like the back and forth, but rather the quick and easy. I want the back and forth @IamQuailman. ;)

Maaaaaannnn!
I'm not yet one of the old men in this league.
Kind of feel like the middle child who can relate to being brand new, but seen a bit about a bit.

My first shoutout goes to @RPF!
I was in this league for 10 minutes when somebody put a bug in my ear and told me James Andrews was going to be the greatest DR. since the invention of the stethoscope!
So I paid him handsomely in RFA and stuck it to the entire Nets establishment.
@RPF never held that against me.
He been cool as a fan in trade talks and league talk since day 2.

I also have to second that @Kavarga mention.
That guy brought the comedy for a long while before I saw the antics of @Digiskunk.
And @IamQuailMan is the greatest super villain the league has seen.

I feel I have some good relationships with other GMs but these guys have provided real entertainment for me at different times and been great sports when the joke was on them.
Thank You Very Much Gentlemen!

Can I just do the cop out and say I love you all? There's a unique group of people in this league, some new some here since the very beginning. Each relationship I have with yall is different and I don't wanna put value on them or pit them against one another. There's some of the newer GMs that I don't know as well as others, but time will come. But if I had to pick one person, it's the single individual I've known longest in the league..... @digiskunk ! We go back to 1998 AOL AIM CHAT days bruh, before this game was even conceived. He's a wildcard, an enigma, usually high or drunk or both, and always got a story to tell... whether or not it's appropriate for the occasion is always up for discussion. But deep down he's just a kind hearted guy who even when times get tough, he's cheery and ready to laugh and usually drawing a picture of some dude grinding a skateboard down an elongated penis or something. <3 Gary

Similar to Doug’s answer, every relationship I have with each GM is special in a way. It’s like a virtual Frat House that carries on the friendships well beyond this game and the social media platforms.

Hell, the friendships in this game got me to spend a part of my Honeymoon in New Orleans for the NickTogether. A special bond formed with all the GM’s and guys I met with that night that really meant the world to me thanks to this game. Even after that get together, I managed to meet with Doug & Logan Messina outside the game when they came through NYC when I was working in the city at the time.

New Orleans will always hold a special place in my heart and not just for the basketball team I root for. Even the GM’s that live throughout the rest of the Country, I hope to meet and hang out with some day in some capacity. I enjoy our chats about the game and life itself no matter where you are in this world. This game is just a small part of the friendships we’ve formed along the way.

I love all of the GMs. If this question was asked during the league origins my answer would prolly be different. Only I didn't know most of the GMs like I know them currently. I thought they all were asses lol. Took me a min to open up and get to know them. Nicktogether was a fun time and I enjoyed meeting with the guys in person. When this league started some years ago I thought it was gonna be one those things that was going to be temporary. SLOE is like a fraternity well unofficially lol, that I am glad to be apart of. Something that started out as something to kill time during the work day became more over the years. Sorry if I got off subject but you all are my favs.

My favorite GM is BigDaddyd8720

We came in at the same time, and he killed it by jumping in and grabbing his hometown team and having fun with it #FillyoPouch. This second season he seems to be getting more involved and understanding a lot more of the systems and what he actually needs to do.

He’s also my best friend, but thats beside the point.

@SuperDog - never complains, never takes sim league too seriously, never tries to compete. Just the perfect amount of chill.

Honorable mention to @jlmarines - arguably the worst GM in sim history yet like a masochist keeps coming back for more punishment, season after season without fail. It takes a special kind of man to try at this game yet fail spectacularly no matter how much effort goes into managing this franchise. Your memes never make any sense, nor do your gameplans. And your delusional ramblings every preseason presser amuse me to no end. If sim sports were able to be adjudicated in a court of law then jlmarines deserves to go before a tribunal for crimes against humanity. But alas, that is not possible so I give this goof of a GM his flowers here in this Town Hall. Thank you for your service jlmarines.

K100.

During the pressor, we engage in detail conversations in how to manage our power house teams. K100 is always there to listen 24/7. K100 sleeps, dreams, eats, and thinks about the Cavs historical seasons. Can't wait for our next chats.

AB

AB tries to be a big bully. But the truth is, he's a quiet guy who likes walks in the beach.

The truth is both K100 and AB lose at everything. I allow them to beat me in SIM to boost their self esteem.

I'm basically the big brother who was popular with the girls in highschool while my little bros AB & K100 were at the library alone. I'm super happy I can help them in SIM.

Being that I only know Jedihero and AngryBanana I gotta say they are my favorites. I’m sure one day when I get to know everybody a bit more and everybody gets to know me that maybe that answer will change but y’all got some big shoes to fill so good luck trying to surpass them. (Spoiler alert, you probably won’t)

Jedihero and I go way back and he’s forever my male boo and always keeps the competitive juices flowing. It’s great seeing him come into this league and have early success with his team. Hoping to see if he can bring home a yacht one day.

Angrybanana has been super helpful and has answered every question I’ve had and has taken the time to explain things to me even if I seem to ask the same question multiple times. I know I give him a hard times at some points but he’s been a great mentor and I hope one day this student will surpass the teacher. (Which may not be too far away since he’s blowing up his team)

I've built a lot of relationships in my time here, so, like many I've got a bunch of names I could list here. Nate, my roommate and homie. Jon, my former hallway series partner. Charlie, the one I probably chat with the most now. Ed and Carlos, whose names I constantly mixed up early in my career ha. Dougie, who I made my first deal with. Though high billing will always go to Josh, who got me into the league and who I've known for so many years now thanks to another ultra nerdy hobby we used to share. I've learned a lot from Josh, podcasted with him, commished with and for him, and just generally shot the shit many times over. He knows this game as well as anyone and always makes the best of any sim situation. Respect, ya'll.

It's probably Nick. We go all the way back to the Nick Anderson/Horace Grant trade in the old league, and we've kept checking up on each other for sim league and other stuff ever since. I really enjoyed chatting with Syndicate as well. Even though we rarely made deals, just shooting the breeze about league goings-on was always a pleasure. I have a similar relationship with Mamba and Gman.

Honestly, there's too many to list for me. Quail and Darth also deserve special call-outs, Quail for similar reasons to Nick, and Darth because he's Darth. IYKYK. And as far as the newer crop of GMs go, Mike Lowry.
