Grizzlies S67 Press Conference

Post by K-100 »

Welcome back everyone,

The Grizzlies are still in tax jail, but we are trying to make the best of it. This past season, we have been active on the trade market and are slowly acquiring future assets to pay off the remaining debt. Overall, I think we are making strides, but now we have to switch gears and start rebuilding this team through the draft. While we continue to wait on the lottery gods to bless us with the next blue-chip prospect, we managed to acquire some great talent heading into this season namely Mikal Bridges, E.J. Liddell, and our newest rookie Johnell Davis who we selected after trading down to the 9th pick. We know both Bridges and Liddell are high-quality players, but we also understand that neither of them fits our long-term timeline so we will actively shop both for future assets as soon as Day 60 rolls around.

Overall, we are less than 75 points away from paying off this tax bill so with a little push we can cover our debts by the end of this season, otherwise I'll definitely be ready to roll into S69 (nice) with an almost 100% clean ledger. Sweet.

Any questions?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: As a recidivist tax offender, you're about to come out of the tax after several teams (Nets, Jazz) came out of the tax only to feel the sting of not having points for things like extra insurance. What's the smartest way that a team can re-enter society after being released from tax jail?

Good question. I think you need to have an honest self-assessment and evaluate where your team stands. Do you have valuable prospects? If so, do you like them enough to build around? If yes, start participating and rack up the points while you let them develop naturally via TC. If you don't like your prospect pool, trade them away for win-now talent and compete immediately. You just need to make a plan and start executing. You can always pivot once you start. But you have to start. The longer you wait to decide, the more your team will languish and that does nobody any good from a GM's perspective.

You have done a good job staying competitive in tax jail, serving as a solid option to be voted coach of the year in S67. DO you have any advice for future president of the United States of America Donald J. Trump? Bad advice only?

Seriously though, are you going to keep relatively competitive until the tax is paid off? Or do you plan to start tanking to acquire a nice blue chip through the draft?
Somehow I manage.

To 45 - surround yourself with the best people. Need to find the latest loophole in the tax code? Whatever you do, don't call @jlmarines. He loves to pay taxes, especially when nobody expects him to pay. Don't be jlmarines. Don't be a sucker.

I'd like to tank but right now it is so hard to do so if you have even 1-2 blue players that are above average. There are just so many bad teams right now in the league. I wont name names but I just find cannot think of a way the Grizzlies could lose more games than the Utah Jazz or Charlotte Bobcats right now. The Grizzlies are bad. Don't get me wrong. I'm not delusional. But those teams are downright terrible.

Justin Bieber; Teremana.com: After you pay your tax bill, how much are you going to spend? $500-600mil? How does it feel to lose to the Cavs this year again? Are you jealous Jonathan Isaac is having an amazing time in Cleveland? Are you going to ask Superdog for help and trade? Is jlmarines your hero? Is it true, you almost quit SIM because the Cavs had a better record last year?

Any advice for GMs who are about to be in tax jail? Is it more important having an accountant or therapist? Anyway to wipe the books clean without anyone knowing? Is it true you made more than the mafia?

In order...

Bulls beat me to $400 million so I have to hit $500 first. Guaranteed.

Have you seen my record? I'm not losing to Cleveland. Print that.

I AM SO JEALOUS OF JONATHAN ISAAC. PLEASE TRADE HIM TO ME.

@SuperDog wake up! I need your help.

Jlmarines is my hero. He is an American hero.

Yes.

definitely a therapist - it used to be a lonely stint in tax jail. But now teams are fiscally irresponsible all the time so it has been nice to have company. If @garbageman is open to bribes, I'm sure we could work something out to get this debt forgiven.
