League has been fairly quiet on the trade front this season. People are not making much of a push to "go for it" and we see lots of apathy and giving up for the season. It's been called a race of 2 teams, Lakers vs Spurs.
Are you having fun this season? Do you enjoy seasons like this? What are your overall thoughts on seasons like this where the "winner" is crowned early?
First and foremost, I want to address lack of trades that have been occurring. According to the chart, 8 teams have cap space; an additional 3 teams have mid-exception money. There's absolutely no reason why there shouldn't be a hungry market right now. If you look at the Bucks—who have a little over $2m in cap space—you'll see that they have room for improvement, namely in the Department of Defense. Outside of Ebbe Clauer, they're lacking reliable perimeter defenders—and this is something that should be addressed if they want to cut down on some losses. If you were to ask me to remedy that problem, I'd sign Charles Cook on a vet minimum and just hope for the best. Or, alternatively, they could make a trade.
And see, that's the thing: Many teams can make a trade. In fact, the market is open—wide open—just waiting to be exploited. There are plenty of teams who'll be willing to take on large contracts in exchange for points, namely -- and actually only -- being the Jazz.
Next, we need to really address these rankings. Currently, we have a lot of close teams battling it out; it's a slobberknocker, a funfest of fury. Unfortunately, many teams are far behind them and have little chance of capturing the title.
This is why it's important for teams to tap into the market in an effort to improve their team, even if it's for next season. However, that's beside the point: What are the upsides for the teams at the bottom of the standings?
Well, let's take a quick look. If you take a look at the Grizzlies, who're far behind in the race despite being 10-27, you'll find a team full of talent that they could easily unload, especially Vaughn Millsapp, who has been recently caught in a controversy surrounding performance enhancement drugs and similar related crimes.
