*EXTENDED DEADLINE* Season 66 - Town Hall #5

Post by Darth Vegito »

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful(and I stress THOUGHTFUL) answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Deadline TOMORROW Thursday 5pm, Sim #5.

Question:
League has been fairly quiet on the trade front this season. People are not making much of a push to "go for it" and we see lots of apathy and giving up for the season. It's been called a race of 2 teams, Lakers vs Spurs.

Are you having fun this season? Do you enjoy seasons like this? What are your overall thoughts on seasons like this where the "winner" is crowned early?

No it hasn't. There have already been 23 trades, and trade deadline is still several sims away. Last season, there were only 29 trades total. I've already made more trades than I did last season and have more fruitful talks going. Magic and Bobcats have been very active on the trade market. I even traded with the Nets this season, which I haven't done in over 2 actual years. I think there'd be even more trades if the league as a whole was quicker at assessing trade value in a highly adaptable market.

As for the race of 2 teams, I think they're the favorites, and it might scare some teams away, but I do see other teams still making pushes, and anything can happen. I think it's fairly common that people want to crown the winner early. Sometimes the favorite wins, sometimes they don't. If the favorite never won, that'd be kinda <expletive deleted> up.

I'm having some fun, but it's not related to the Lakers/Spurs. For me, it's a transition year, which is fun in some ways, but not as fun as going all in, which is a result of my repeater status. For me, I'll take the Lakers and Spurs assembling teams as GM masterstrokes over people fighting in the chat any day...especially as someone who does behind the scenes work, that can kind of spoil the fun.

As I can relate, and so can the Lakers. We're all only one major injury away from an upset loss in a playoff series. I think teams that are close should keep hope because you never know what may happen. I don't think bulls nor the warriors first title, were teams that anyone suspected would win it all.

However as the GM of a team who's close. Idk that I'd be willing to buy or bank on an injury as a reason to sell assets to get better. I think I'd rather keep a manageable tax bill and get lucky and just think of creative ways to close the gap next year as some key pieces are aging. I think Hawks, wolves, rockets, would benefit from any significant injuries to the top two teams.

I am enjoying this season so far despite some early season injuries plaguing the Raptors. I think the Raptors are still in the contention mix and are probably a move or two away from trying to make some serious noise in the playoffs. I do not mind seasons like this where the winner is "crowned" early. It lets me continue to fly under the radar without attracting too much attention.

If we've learned anything the past few seasons, it's that crowning folks doesn't equate to rings, so folks should still be willing to take those swings when they come. I'd certainly be having more fun if I had a little salary flexibility to make more trades, but, yeah, obviously it's been fun letting Safi and Paolo play alongside JD. Also, with a roster full of young guys needing to contribute, it's fun seeing which ones are doing it. From a wider scope, I'm enjoying seeing just how many winning teams are in the league right now. I love seeing Varga engaged in the trade market. It's great seeing Ed and Gary writing articles. Fun watching Nick try building a winner again. Yeah. It's fun.

I’m having fun this season. My favorite thing has been all the buzz around Town Halls! It seems like once a sim, it’s the talk of the town! My second favorite thing has been Gary’s articles. Everyone should enjoy those more. My third favorite has been trade talks.

There has been a good amount of trade talk. I've made some trades already and am looking to make more to set up for next year.

I was having fun until one of my big men got hurt and now I'm trying to make adjustments. This season is another learning experience for me.

Yea kinda boring that there's already a winner Lakers but if someone pulls out a win against the spurs or Lakers in the semi finals they'd be the true champs

There've been a quite a bit of trades, some of which I've been involved. But there's alot of teams in the Alpha Conference really going for it, and that's always good. Omega is a little top heavy, but the battle for the top is wide open there as well. For me personally, it was a surprise that I had the hot start through the first 3 sims. That made the decision to move Hub and Bridges more difficult than I had planned. But I'm happy and excited to move forward with the younger core of these guys. It should be a fun to play around with where they will play and work out who fits best where. While Lakers & Spurs look like the favorites to win it all, as everyone else has said, it just takes a wild injury and there's always one sometime mid-season and another towards the end. Never know when it's coming or who the grim reaper is looking to take... but there are unfortunate equalizers out there that can literally change the landscape of the league and set off an arms race.

I also want to second how fun it's been to have Gary's activity ramp back up in the league. His articles are premium content and should be behind a paywall. So damn good.

I would not say I'm having fun per se but this season has been alright. I just login to cover the basics and collect a few points here and there when I can. It has been nice to just chill for a moment while the rest of the league dukes it out. As far as crowning champs early, I'm all for it. The last few seasons have taught me that nothing is really guaranteed so I hope those teams dont get too carried away with the hype and just continue to grind and get better.

I don't know that I agree re: trades - I think there have been a lot of interesting deals this season, and they're continuing. Fabian Hub just got dealt; Mikal Bridges just got dealt; Alvarado moved earlier this season, as well as Morelock and Ridenhour in the offseason. So, I think there has been plenty of interesting trade activity, but there are some teams from whom I wish there had been more trades, but alas. I have no control over the Mavs or Hawks lol

I'm having a lot of fun this season. I think the Lakers / Spurs final is inevitable, but I don't care. I have found all kinds of ways to enjoy sim league even without my ex-husband. That <expletive deleted>. Still, winning it all is only one part of sim league, and I just did it twice, unexpectedly, so I concur with K-100 that you just never know

how many games it will take the Lakers to win it all.
Somehow I manage.

I'm having fun. I will be trading next season. I'm trying to talk the Hawks into going all in, while Greeple is trying to talk me into going all in; Its a vicious cycle. Love the town halls. I also don't mind having a clearly dominant team coming out of UFA, its fun to see if there will be an upset. Outside of the top 2 the league is pretty competitive.

First and foremost, I want to address lack of trades that have been occurring. According to the chart, 8 teams have cap space; an additional 3 teams have mid-exception money. There's absolutely no reason why there shouldn't be a hungry market right now. If you look at the Bucks—who have a little over $2m in cap space—you'll see that they have room for improvement, namely in the Department of Defense. Outside of Ebbe Clauer, they're lacking reliable perimeter defenders—and this is something that should be addressed if they want to cut down on some losses. If you were to ask me to remedy that problem, I'd sign Charles Cook on a vet minimum and just hope for the best. Or, alternatively, they could make a trade.

And see, that's the thing: Many teams can make a trade. In fact, the market is open—wide open—just waiting to be exploited. There are plenty of teams who'll be willing to take on large contracts in exchange for points, namely -- and actually only -- being the Jazz.

Next, we need to really address these rankings. Currently, we have a lot of close teams battling it out; it's a slobberknocker, a funfest of fury. Unfortunately, many teams are far behind them and have little chance of capturing the title. This is why it's important for teams to tap into the market in an effort to improve their team, even if it's for next season. However, that's beside the point: What are the upsides for the teams at the bottom of the standings?

Well, let's take a quick look. If you take a look at the Grizzlies, who're far behind in the race despite being 10-27, you'll find a team full of talent that they could easily unload, especially Vaughn Millsapp, who has been recently caught in a controversy surrounding performance enhancement drugs and similar related crimes.

I am having a super fun time. It's glorious seeing the AB and K100 struggling.

I haven't seen a decline in trades. In fact, I get contacted a lot for my prospects. Now that the Cavs are "elite", I noticed sharks swimming close to the Cavs. I think trades are about the same level.
