Paul E. Waveman: "[Raptors-Suck-Chants]

Image

Thank you - thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your irrelevant opinion...but don't worry, I assure you that as long as Elton Brand is standing here, we will take as long as we deem appropriate. Ya see, when you stand next to Elton Brand, you can do ANYTHING you damn well please. And it pleases me this evening to educate all of you - you're welcome, by the way - to educate all of you on some historical facts - historical facts that led Elton Brand to the monumental decision of hiring ME as his agent.

You see, it was a historical fact that I -Paul E. Waveman- managed Michael Finley and groomed him to be Stone Cold Purple. It is a historical fact that I represented Chauncey Billups, and groomed him to be Mr. Purple in the Bank. It is a historical fact that I was the architect of a concept called spreadsheeting that spawned SLOE Attitude and created the multi-billion dollar conglomerate of sports entertainment that you see today. There is a moral to this story...and that moral is, I - better than any single one of you - can spot The Next Big Thing, and ladies and gentlemen, the next big thing is Elton Brand.

NCAA Heavyweight Champion Elton Brand. The Invincible Elton Brand. The Invulnerable Elton Brand. The Indestructible Elton Brand. The Impervious To Pain Elton Brand. Ladies and gentlemen, The Next Big Thing, ELLLLTTTTOON BRRRRRRRRAND! Now, in all fairness, please - don't take my word for it, no - as a matter of fact, if you would please turn your attention to the giant screen, you will see some footage that I assure you will amplify my point. Mr. Producer, please roll the footage.

Did I tell you? Ask North Carolina about Elton Brand! Ask the Maryland Terps about Elton Brand! Ask the UConn Huskies about Elton Brand! Ask any single one of his opponents about Elton Brand!"

Jon Snow, WSN. You clearly feel Brand is the "next big thing" but what about the other players on the team? You have chosen to ignore them and just highlight Brand. Is that a good move for team chemistry?

Random Reporter: Mr. Waveman, what led you to turn heel on your previous "Paul Waveman Guys," Tim "TT Punk" Thomas and last season's draft choice Brad "Better Than Perfect" Miller?

Believe me sir, they are not ignored. They are the Big Thing, Brand is just the NEXT Big Thing. We know where our bread is buttered.

That was a tough decision. They were good guys to be aligned with, but being good doesn't win you a title. Sometimes you need to go bad, or go get a Bad Man. Both of those players had some weaknesses that opponents could exploit. We needed toughness. We needed power. We needed The Next Big Thing.

During the draft we asked ourselves, what players do we have that can be future all-stars and are there any future all-stars available. We thought between the 3 players the one we switched allegiances towards had the best chance to be an all-leaguer.

Nick Melon; Charlotte Observer: With the improvements your team made during the offseason, do you view your team as finally being the favorites to win the Central Division? Who is the one that can be the one in the eight teams that would make you feel most threatened to lose that top spot.

I believe we have as good a shot as any team in the Central. Like a lot of teams, we have to stay healthy and things have to break right for us.

If you are asking about the one player in the Central that we are most concerned about I would have to say Eddie Jones. He is the best player in the Central right now and may very well be the best player in the East. (Along with Zo).

Sports Guy Bill Simmons here, do you feel the frontcourt rotation is a little thin? Brand may be the next big thing, but he's still a rookie. Causewell has been a solid Center in this league, but he's approaching Dennis Rodman status in the QKN department, and Brian Grant is solid but plays same position as Brand and both would be way undersized to attempt to play the center position. Can Finley and Billups make up for any perceived shortcomings in other areas of the floor?
