2029-2030 General Manager of the Year Nominations (Due 10/5 @11:59pm central)

Post by false9 »

Rules for Nominations:(READ CAREFULLY AS THERE ARE CHANGES) Nominate yourself for General Manager of the Year OR someone else for General Manager of the Year that you feel was outstanding and exemplary. You are limited to ONE nomination.

This year there will be a GMOTY award AND a COTY award. Therefore you must consider different things when nominating for these two awards. The cultivation of a team's talent boils down to smart management in the front office. From drafting to making good trades to free agency, managing a roster’s skill-set, and managing a salary cap is not an easy job. Though the PBSL is mostly cyclical in terms of the power balance, the best general managers are able to keep their teams in the playoff picture year in and year out through proper management of their salary cap situation and close monitoring of how their team is built and fit together. But maybe some GM was able to completely flip a team, get out of the tax, and avoid a total rebuild while still being competitive. Whoever you feel deserves a nod, just make sure to break down why they deserve it.

Please break down why your nomination fits this bill and why your nomination deserves this award.

As always there will NOT be any prodding of other GMs or any general bitchassness in these threads. It will be deleted upon discovery.

I'll tip my nomination to kucoach7 of the Portland Trailblazers.

The Blazers assembled a tough team in the toughest division, and many of their moves this season have reflected kucoach's all-in approach to this season. A trade for Jayson Tatum really bolstered their backcourt, and the resigning of Andrew Wiggins as a super 6th man makes this team incredibly potent. They didn't back down on Small and retained him with a smart 4 year max--the last year being a team option so they don't HAVE to pay him 54 million.

On the min side, they were able to shore up a deep front court with Predrag Saric and Hyman Low, and with one sim left, they're already at 60 wins, which improves over their 56 in last season's campaign...vying to win their division and fighting for the #1 seed in the Alpha Conference overall.

I want to nominate garbageman. I really thought I had his number this year but in the end he made some incredible moves to develop the better team. He picked up Nassir Little for depth for a late first rounder. Then he picked up Harland Ellinger for another late first rounder. These sneaky good moves allowed him to go way over the cap when he brought back his golden trio of Haugh, Edmunds, and Silva and Grim in FA. He also picked up some good min guys, including his main 6th man, Bowens. He made a salary-wise trade of Grim for Andre Betts. Then he pulled off a masterpiece, trading Ellinger and two first for two blue/blue rookie contract guys in Silky Johnson and A.C Williams. He probably earned GMOY with just that one trade. In the end he ended up with a better team at a cheaper price than the Blazers (plus he isn't in the repeater for tax).

I’m nominating myself for GMOY. Sometimes it’s blockbuster moves that make for success, but it can also be as simple as staying the course and making some minor tweaks. I was ready for a major shakeup after a tough first round exit, but ultimately decided on some small changes. I traded Tibor Pleiss and what wound up being pick 30 in the upcoming draft for Judd Williams. UFA and waivers saw the acquisition of James McCormick, Zubac, Haviland, Robison, and Mele.

While none of these were tectonic shift type acquisitions, it led to a hell of a season. The Magic improved 12 wins from last season, to a record of 73-9, tied for second best ever. I had a dope 28 game winning streak, and handily won my division and the Omega Conference. I’m not in too bad a position in terms of tax either- first year and 19 points due.
