Initial Thoughts:

When this draft class was first announced to us, I was shocked by the amount of blue and green potential players in this draft. I haven't gone back to check, but there are 22 prospects with a potential rating of at least green, with a staggering 9 of those players with a potential rating of blue. We've seen deep drafts before, both historic draft files and college draft files, but this class is taking it to a whole new level. The intriguing aspect of college, which some like or dislike, is that we don't know how good these players are yet. The eye test says the class is deep, but we don't know how they will perform yet. One thing I noticed is that all positions are represented. We have seen classes like the Baratheon/Ulis/Keitt/Agustin/Aguilar that was PG dominant and lacked any standout big men. I don't believe this is the case in this class.

Also, this class is missing a true #1 obvious pick. A guy that is in his own tier. You may have a guy you would easily take #1 overall if you were given the pick, but I don't see that guy here. There is no Simmons/Ironside/B. Free/Dejean-Jones, because in this writer's eyes, I see two players that can stake the claim for #1. Maaaaaybe 3 only because this one other player has the physical tools, potentials, and base athleticism that screams All League if someone can invest in him.

How will the league react to a deep class with potential All Star type players littered throughout? We know trades happen, but after the lotto who will be the first domino to set the market and how will the rest fall?

TEAM PROFILE

Image

Considered an afterthought, neglected, and now open after many seasons of being GM'd by a ghost. The Thunder franchise is searching for anyone with a pulse to run this franchise. In the last four seasons, the team is averaging less than 11 wins a season. Remember when the team had a B/P CJ McCollum, newly drafted Jabari Parker and rising PG Isaiah Thomas? The team has tanked but had every chance of being a winner throughout the seasons if depth charts were entered, players were insured and some activity in the offseason.

The Thunder once again will be guaranteed a top 4 pick, but the team is currently open, which means at the very least the team will be run by stewards until it is filled with a GM. This is a first step that will inspire optimism throughout Oklahoma City, as the team needs a true star-in-the-making prospect. Lino Brookins and Patrick Edmunds are simply not going to carry this team, but they can be excellent support or trade bait.

The fate of the franchise doesn't rest on the lotto balls as much as finding a GM, so with that said, welcome to Career Day in OKC! We are looking for new graduates with a minimum of 5 years experience.

Player to Highlight

Image Andrew McCulley - PG - 6'7 - 219lbs

McCulley is the usual prospect that shocks the college nation declaring for the NBA draft when most don't think he's ready. The freshman from Butler only averaged 9 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists a game while shooting fairly poorly from the field. His production is not what you would expect from a potential #1 pick, but NBA teams are salivating at the chance to lock this kid up.

"His size and fluidity when playing PG, you don't see these kids playing naturally like that at his size," claims one anonymous team's scout, "He's an animal. He just needs polishing and someone to teach him."

"He reminds me of Penny Hardaway."

The comparison is staggering, but it may not be that far off. It's been a long time since the league witnessed the Hall of Famer on a daily basis, but the league may be watching the next best thing in primetime.

The world waits to see this young, raw prospect grow into the player he can become, rather than the player he was during his short stint at Butler.

NOLa.'s Opinionated Prospect Power Ranking

#1: John Bono - This player doesn't come around too often. 6'7, A in Inside to match his QKN of 92 and JMP of 98, and a 3 point shot to boot. If a GM passes on this guy, I can't wait until I see a petty "No" on his Hall of Fame ballot, because I know who it will be from.

#2: Andrew McCulley - Again, height and athleticism at the PG position that needs some cleaning up around his rough edges like passing, which is important for a PG (who knew?) I love this guy and think he will be a defensive monster who epitomizes 3&D.

#3: Dennis Dinh - How many guys do we know of who have the versatility to play SG through C? With some training, Dinh can be an All Star at any one of these spots. Potentially the steal of the draft prospect.

#4: Trenton Williams - Balanced SF who can do a little bit of everything and will be a deadly 3 point shooter. I think it's because he doesn't have something that screams elite to me, I dropped him a few spots, but he has that Shawn Marion rebounding skill set. Don't sleep on him.

#5: Roland Pettit: Defensive minded, scrappy board crashing, inside focused SF, but don't tell him to his face that he plays small. Wig said he likes guys who does something very well that you wouldn't expect for his position. This dude will be a great offensive rebounder.
