Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Springfield, Massachusetts, the site of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Today we gather to celebrate two big men who dominated the decade of the 1990s. Through strength, determination, and force of will, these two combined for over 54000 points, 25000 rebounds, and 21 All Star Appearances. Their skill, longevity, and dedication to basketball have led them on a compelling journey that ends tonight in these hallowed halls.
First we recognize Shaquille O'Neal. After a dominant career at LSU, Shaq spent 18 years in the PBSL, starting with the Rockets, where he instantly dominated. He spent 7 years in Houston, then bounced around the league. He made it to the PBSL finals in Milwaukee, where a concussion was the only thing standing between him and a title. But everywhere he went, he brought his dominant offense and stifling defense. He is a two time DPOY, a 10 time all star, and a three-time First league center. He will always be remembered for his humor, his hunger, and his humility. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Shaquille O'Neal to the Hall of Fame.
Lastly, we have another big man who debuted the year after Shaq. Starting in Minnesota, Chris Webber won Rookie of the Year and quickly turned the franchise around. The GM of the Wolves has gone on record citing Webber's skill and determination were responsible for keeping him interested in running the team. Webber brought the Wolves to two conference finals, and the Rockets to a finals appearance, although he was never able to bring a championship home. However, his accomplishments should not be discounted. He made the All Star team 11 times, 8 total all league teams, and 5 all defense teams. After 19 seasons, he finally joined the Timberwolves so he could retire with the team that gave him his first shot. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Chris Webber to the Hall of Fame.
Thank you and good night.
