Is Deron Williams a Hall of Famer?

Post by JNR »

The feedback showed that making it a guessing game took away from my true purpose in this, which is to discuss current players and whether they project as Hall of Famers. So today let's reveal him off the bat.

Doug: IS IT DERON WILLIAMS?

Yes, Doug, it is.

Here are some of his accomplishments:

Age: 29
Career averages of 23ppg/4.7rpg/10.2apg
6x All Star
3x First Team
1x Second Team
1x Third Team
3x Assists Leader

So what do you think? Is he going to be a Hall of Famer? If you don't think his credentials fit the bill yet, what do you think he has to do to become one? Let's discuss!

Has he ever made a All-NBA defense? If no defense and no ring...probably no. I think you need one or the other to add to his resume.
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

I think a lot of guys took the nut dragging Deron gave y'all personally if you don't believe he is a HoFer.

The one season Deron hasn't averaged a double-double? His rookie season because he only averaged 9.4 assists... his rookie season.

I'm really torn on this . Deron is almost everything you want a PG to be on the court. He can score, he can shoot, he can pass and he's not bad at defense at all. He's dragged the Pacers dead corpse through the playoffs all these years; but then I look at Gary Payton who has kind of the same story. Is he as good as an offensive player; no way. But he is a better defender, perhaps one of the best perimeter defenders we've ever seen. He was a fine offensive player and a very good passer (not elite like deron).

I personally voted yes to Payton and will do the same for Deron, but I tend to think if you said no to Payton you almost have to for Deron based off of reasoning.

I'm legitimately shocked at how anyone can make a case against him (keep in mind his career is far from over so those accomplishments will only grow)

The HoF is a place to honor the very best players we have had and every team would take him. His defense isn't great and granted I haven't been able to do a whole lot around him but that doesnt and shouldn't diminish HIS play which has been at an extremely high level ever since he stepped foot in the league
