This is a fun one... but I want to give this award to the Knicks GM @NY_Magic_Garrett for how awesome of a job he's done with rebuilding that team. They took a major risk a few seasons back in trading away Buck Williams... and while it didn't pay off originally, that trade paved the way for this team to be in the position they are. Acquiring Bernard King, Moses Malone really were 2 POWERHOUSE alpha moves that changed the entire dynamic of the Eastern Conference. No one can take them for granted anymore. Injury may have struck at the worst time for them, yet they are still poised to be a force in the post-season.
IamQuailman deserves to win GM of the Year... again. For most, this would have been a rebuilding season, but not for him. Year after year, he has crafted a young, nearly unstoppable squad. This season, his team is so stacked, and with so many players still on rookie contracts, he's able to maintain a deep bench. Looking ahead, he’s barely going to dip into the luxury tax next year. Knowing him, he'll probably trade half his roster for even younger, better talent and keep the dominance going. You have to respect his consistency in avoiding rebuilds. It’s time for the rest of us to take our lumps and bow down to the king.
I'm going to say the best record in the league lies with the most complete and cohesive roster.
Wig is the GM of the Year!
He won this award all the way back in UFA 1 when he signed Hubbard, Spanarkel, and Thompson.
If you didn't bid any of them you probably weren't ready to compete.
They were the perfect compliment pieces in UFA and I couldn't believe he signed all 3 of them.
They have lifted this already deep team to a new height.
The award is for assembling the best roster.
That's the job of the GM.
Thanks @IamQuailman -- I have thought about starting a campaign. My deadline moves are keeping me alive as well.
That being said, I am here to nominate another. My vote goes to @WigNosy -- Truly a master at work each year. Will build an unassuming team that will come together as a sum of its parts to literally beat your players into the ground.
My favorite part of this game is not being in that division. Thank you for keeping the Sonics down.
Welcome to the Garden!
If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere!
I have to go with logpmess of the Bulls... he somehow managed to convince Darth Vegito to trade away Calvin Natt... and then managed to pick up James Bailey from the Warriors to solidify his frontcourt. It definitely took some courage to trade away Alex English AND George Gervin and still expect to win, and yet he pushed the Bucks for the Central Division right up until April despite making significant roster tweaks. That takes bravery and vision.
I gotta throw a nom out to my Town Hall coordinator @Mike Lowry .
When the Bullets traded for Darrell Griffith, parting with Tom Chambers (a trade that could have been TOTY in my opinion because Chambers is such a boss) - who had been relegated to the bench because of the powerhouse duo of Nance and Buck - the Bullets were a solid 25-11. They enter the final sim at 55-21, with a real chance to cross 60 wins. That's a 30-10 stretch, very impressive. John Long wasn't playing to his potential, Bagley was too raw, and they made a great team better.
All season long this guy was looking to improve, at the smallest of margins, and he ended up with his to competition's former best player, Darrell Griffith. If they can handle Moses in their inevitable showdown in the playoffs, this will have proven to be the ultimate alpha move on their behalf, enough to claim the GMOTY crown.
