S83 Town Hall 8

Post by Mike Lowry »

Up or Down, where they headed?
Which teams are primed to surge after the break?
Which teams are going to drop out of contention? Why?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 8

I think the Bullets are going to continue to surge; 20 of their remaining 32 games are at home. Similarly, I think the Kings are going to surge now that their 20-game road trip is over. I'm also going to go against type a bit here and say if the Suns choose to play their recent acquisitions, they'll improve - not enough to make the playoffs, but enough to probably ruin their chances at the #1 overall pick.

I think the Pistons are going to drop back in the standings after trading away Dennis Johnson... which they probably don't mind, we know every team not making a title push is making a tank push. The Clippers also appear to be dumping salary, which means they're probably going to swoon a little bit, though I think they aren't in full tank mode... as I mentioned in the podcast, I think the all-star sim really cemented the 6 playoff teams in the West and unfortunately for the Clippers they look to be in the 7-8 slot.

I think the Bullets are due for a surge. They've gotten better as the season has gone along and the Nets have seem to have fallen back a bit in the division. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bullets take full control of this division in the next sim or two. Another team to make a "surge" is the Trailblazers. And I say that because they are already rolling and are looking to go from the 3 seed in the conference to taking over the 1 seed. We know the Trailblazers are always going to be competitive and if the warriors stumble even a little bit, the Trailblazers will be right there to jump them

Which teams are going to drop out of contention? Why?
The Knicks will likely drop out of contention in the East, even though they haven't really been trying to win, they are still only two games out of the 6 seed. They can only go so far without trying and I think we will see that catch up to them soon. Unless they decide to make a last minute trade to make a playoff push but they don't seem ready to compete now so look for them to stay around the 8-9 seed.

The Sonics and Blazers are going to surge, begrudgingly. Although, I hope the Blazers plateau a bit with a lot of road games coming up. Hopefully a 2pt victory over the tanking Suns is a bad omen for them (sorry Wig, you're awesome, but you won't ever freaking leave me alone!!).

I liked the Sonics's activity at the trade deadline. I think they only get better here on out, too. BigD hasn't been nipping at my heels for several seasons now, though, so I don't wish as much badness upon them. I still hope they lose more than me, though.

I thought the Kings could be headed down with that insane road trip they're about to wrap up, but all things considered they handled it very well. 7 losses in 18 road games is not bad at all. So, dammit, they're very much still in the mix.

At this point, though, I'm not sure I see anyone dropping out of the playoffs besides the Pistons, possibly. Trading away Dennis Johnson was the right move for this franchise, imo, but it could mean they slip out of the playoffs.

I feel like the Nets and Bulls will hang tight, though it would have been cool to see the Bulls get a trade done at the deadline. I suppose there's still some time..

I'm impressed with the Bullets agression at the deadline to get some deals completed, and even though they're already #2, I do think they'll hold on to the lead in the division and have a showdown with the Bucks in the conference finals.
Somehow I manage.

The Celtics are going down. Its clear they want to be the #1 pick and draft Michael Jordan. Celtics basically traded their entire roster. I think the Cavs have a shot to emerged after their break. The Cavs have been playing without their starting PG Johnny Davis for almost the entire season. Davis is scheduled to return to the lineup this week, which will be a huge upgrade for the Cavs. Expect the Cavs to make some noise for the 4th seed.

Which team will drop out? I'll go with the Nuggets. Outside of Clyde Drexler, the Nuggets don't have any superstars. Overall, defense is not good at all. Unfortunately, they can't keep up with the rest of the league. The Nuggets will have to address their defensive roster during the offseason.

You could always decide to blow up your roster and go full tank mode; I won't be hot on your heels then! ;)

Sonics and Blazers definitely surge without question.
Wig got slimey as a LTS out here and BigD was on his due diligence.
But I'ma go a lil contrary to popular opinion and say the Pacers will surge and make the playoffs at the expense of the Pistons

The Pistons will drop because they move DJ, but it was the right move.
The Pacers have played most of the season without their best player, Adrian Dantley.
He is gonna come back on a tear.

Bulls are absolutely a riser after getting a Tree to climb to the top of the East… but is it too late to catch the Bucks? I dunno… but he definitely just made the top of the East a little crazier.

Faller is the Celtics. Because they are literally selling the farm trying to be the shittiest they can ever be. I approve. He’s tanking exactly how he should, and in the meantime locking in Ralph Sampson as ROY, possibly ALL NBA
