League Tools

Post by WigNosy »

Once you're logged into the site, you'll notice a new entry in the Quick Links menu called "GM Tools."

This is a very handy link to keep track of; it will take you to five tools (so far) that you may find useful as an owner.

1. View Roster

I can hear you now... "Wig, we already have the Index, why do we want this?" Answer: Because (pursuant to our recent votes), this little puppy will allow you to view not only a list of your players, with links to their Index pages and their ratings, but ALSO displays (for players on your team only) their Potential Ratings and includes two ratings that up until this point have been "hidden" by FBB. These two new ratings are in the "Athleticism" area.
  • 3pu ("Three Point Usage"): While 3ps tells you how good a player is at making a three-point shot, 3pu tells you how frequently he will take three pointers; a higher number means he will tend to take more three-pointers. (I don't know why this was hidden as knowing how many threes a guy is going to shoot may be even more important than knowing how often he will make them).
  • Inj ("Injury Avoidance"): You may have been able to infer the existence of this rating based on the voting question about Injury training, but this is rating is likely to control (a) how likely it is a player gets injured or (b) if a player does get injured, how long they are injured for or (c) both of the above. Note that injuries are pretty random, so a low rating here doesn't guarantee a player will miss time and a high rating here doesn't guarantee they won't. I can't tell you how the code works underneath, I can just show you the rating.
2. In-Game Training

No longer do you have to type in your training camp preferences every season. This little tool will allow you to input them into the site once, and it should remember your selections year-to-year. It also includes a module for the commissioner to "pick up" your ratings and note when they have been input into the game. This thing tracks the last time a change was made on your end and the last time an inputter noted they have been entered (and who did it). Hopefully this will replace our old system of having to post the same things every year (though I haven't yet put anything for TC insurance).

3. Paid Training Calculator

Sick of doing math? This does the math for your Paid Trainings for you! It automatically offers you "legal" paid trainings only and lets you choose how much you plan to train, then tells you how many points it will cost you. You'll still have to post in the Paid Training thread (with a link to your point bank), but now you can play around and see what you can afford based on your point bank.

4. TC Results

Want to know how much your player jumped (or got destroyed) in TC? No problem! You can see it all right here! How much current ratings, potential ratings, and athletic ratings went up or down. Note that changes due to Paid Trainings are also reflected here. Only results for your own players are available.

5. Cap Tools

Need to figure out if a trade is legal or want to know what a max salary is or how much that rookie draft pick you have is going to hit you on the cap? It's the old Cap Tools page incorporated into this new one!

FAQ:
Q.
Why can I only see Potential Ratings for my own players and not the whole league?

A:
Because the commissioner agreed since we now offer Paid Training up to a player's potential rating (instead of using band limits) you would need to have that information available to you for your own players. There is probably some discussion to be had about whether or not it's a good idea to make all players' potential information available to all GMs at all times and I felt it was wise to have that discussion before deciding on my own to throw open the gates to everyone.

Q.
Where did you find the Inj and 3pu (and potential) ratings?

A:
The same export from FBB that we've been using to drop Personal Foul ratings into the Enhanced Index pages.
