S82 Town Hall 7.5

Post by Mike Lowry »

Who is the biggest name yet to be traded that's going to go before the deadline?
Who do you see making a move for this player?
What will the return be?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 8 - acknowledging late post

As I said on Chat with a Cat, I think all the big moves are over. Most buyers have spent their assets, most sellers have sold. The only trades that I think are going to happen from here on out will be be those forced by an injury that force teams to scramble to fill the opening. Of course, having said that, someone is likely to surprise me with a move out of nowhere. The motivation is what's missing for me - while I think some of the buyers would like to get more assets, I don't think they have what sellers want so I don't think the motivation for sellers is there. The only name I really see a seller possibly being motivated is Fat Lever in the wake of his broken leg... but I think if he was going to move he would have already gone somewhere. So I guess, Fat by default, but I really think the answer is going to be some 10th man on a bench... or nobody at all.

I think Wig pretty much nailed it by saying that most, if not all, the moves have already been made. It seems like most people are content with just seeing how their team performs from here on out. The top teams in the league have their players, while the teams fighting for playoff contention don't have much more to sell off to compete this season and be setup for the future seasons. And then the bottom teams just don't have much of anybody to get rid of to help the mid tier teams make a strong playoff push. I could maybe see the Bulls selling off Robert Reid but I think they would want more than a team is willing to give them.

Who do you see making a move for this player?
The Jazz could try and make a move for Reid. It would give them a better SF to put into the starting lineup right away and in turn give them a little more depth at the position

What will the return be?
This is where it gets tricky. The Jazz don't have their 84 1st so giving up draft picks would be hard. Unless they did their remaining two 1st round picks, got an 84 1st back, gave up some points and one or two depth pieces, I really don't see a deal working out. I just feel like we're at the stage of the season where the teams looking to sell are gonna demand a lot while the teams looking to buy don't want to give up too much

I could see a guy like Larry Bird getting moved if he was on a team other than the Rockets. I feel like if @78# started taking legitimate offers for him, he could fetch a nice return. However, it may be too late for that... Also, I can see Mo Cheeks being on the move. *eyeballs*

Who do you see making a move for this player?
IamQuailman would absolutely be in the market for a player of Mo Cheeks caliber.

What will the return be?
@AngryBanana knows what the return would be and that's all that matters in this situation.

I'm going to return to this post for commentary, but the biggest piece left that will move before the deadline is Rod Higgins.
There are a few expiring scorers out there that I would like to make a run with.
Rod is a highly athletic prospect with great maturity.
I won't be angry if I end up keeping him for the long run, but I think there are some options that are worth coming off him to make my run different.
Stay tuned...

After seeing Parish, Buck, Alex English, Dan Roundfield, John Lucas, Bernard King and George Gervin all move around this year, I can't really fathom who's left...

So I'll go with some wild cards. Digiskunk pops in out of nowhere because he got an offer for Mychal Thompson. Larry Bird moves because there are still some '84 picks left to be moved. Most insanely of all, Magic moves because for a GOAT level player like him his team hasn't really done enough to boost him into true title contention...and SOMEHOW there are still enough 84 picks floating around to justify him leaving.

The only people I see capable of pulling this off (without checking out their picks situation) are Mike Lowry, Quailman or Wig. It would be cool if a team like the Clippers or Lakers made this big of a splash but I think both have thrown in the towel on the 1982 season. We'll see. Crazier things have happened...
Somehow I manage.
