S81 Town Hall 1

Did your offseason plan work out?
What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?
If you couldn't get things done, what came up unexpectedly that prevented you from following through?
How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season?

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5, 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Due by the deadline for sim 1

The "realistic" portion of my offseason plan got done. The "unrealistic" part did not.
What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?
After seeing that we had been able to succeed in the playoffs despite Bernard King's absence, I felt confident our backcourt could carry the load without one of King or David Thompson, and that would give me the opportunity to reinforce my frontcourt, specifically the PF spot.

Obviously, we were able to trade for Kareem, which fit that immediate need. With the 1981 draft pick from Boston included in the deal, we were able to get back into the draft and get some more help on the glass in the form of Kurt Rambis, which I felt was nice since last season, depth was an issue when we got injured.
If you couldn't get things done, what came up unexpectedly that prevented you from following through?
I would have really loved to trade into a higher pick than we had, preferably a top 3 pick but everyone's price to trade up was, I felt, too high for me to pay. Getting a top pick despite making the Finals was probably the "unrealistic" part of my offseason plan. Isiah Thomas would be the perfect poster child for the Blunt Force part of the TraumaBlazers.
How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season?
Well, we're basically the same team (the one without King) that won three playoff series in the West with no rotation player over the age of 27 before falling in the Finals... and we added last season's Defensive Player of the Year. Training Camp swatting Bill Cartwright on the head notwithstanding, I feel we should be in pretty good shape this season as long as the injury fairy goes somewhere else.

Yes, it worked! The main plan was find a playmate for Moses. Alton "The Ultimate Clitster" Lister was 1000% that guy. He doesn't do shit but bang. And Moses needed a banger, while he puts it in the hole. You know what I'm saying?? Yeah, I don't either.

If the trend of the preseason sim continues, the Golden State Warriors are in great shape. I think that our recommended gameplan and DC for preseason was not what I would have chosen, but it proved to be effective in getting wins.

All in all, our offseason was not terribly active. We had one job, and we got that job done. Welcome to the Bay, Alton. You and Moses will be the most dominant frontcourt in the NPBSL. I am so excited for the 1981 season!!
Somehow I manage.

I like where I’m at, except for needing a PF. I think one will open up once a few teams throw in the towel before the trade deadline. Point guard? Check. Defensive PF? Not yet. Everyone is focused on building young super teams, and only a few teams are going all in for a win-now approach. Plus, no one seems to be looking for guards, even though the draft was mostly stacked with PFs. There are definitely a few teams with too many big men and not enough quality guards. I think it's because they just picked them up in the draft and want to give their shiny new toys a chance before moving them.

I feel pretty good overall, like I can make a deep playoff run. I’m definitely better than last season, even though the preseason didn’t go well. I feel like I’m a step or two away from a really strong team. The one issue is I haven’t put enough time into rebuilding my bench (mostly because there wasn’t much in free agency this year).

Did your offseason plan work out?
Somewhat. I tried badly to get a 2nd top draft pick during the draft but it just didn't come together. I am very happy with Eddie, as he was at the top of our list for where we drafted. But, as always, I wanted more. But overall, pretty happy with this off-season thus far.

What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?
I wanted to grab as much young talent as possible. That was the whole plan. Fill the holes and stack youth...evaluate the team after the season. We had a solid draft pick with the 6th pick, grabbed Eddie and are very excited about that pick. We are still wheelin and dealin a bit behind the scenes and more moves could come soon...or we just let the season play out and see what this team can do.

If you couldn't get things done, what came up unexpectedly that prevented you from following through?
What prevented me was the lack of trading partners. I would be lying if I said I was a bit disappointed with the lack of comms during the draft. But I can't people, they thought their pick was gonna be gold so most stood pat and kept their picks. It was a loaded draft and only time will tell who made good decisions.

How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season?
I feel that asking for a .500 season is reasonable. I'd love more but without having any gauge to know how good this team can be...I'll ask for .500 ball and we'll see what we get. But moves can still be made.

Did your offseason plan work out?: Cant say I planned on winning the lottery, but Buck Williams was always at the top of my list and I got him. Found a floor general. Picked up some future assets for safety. I really couldnt have drew it up better, absoulte superb offseason.

What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?: Really wanted a PF to pair with Dr. J and find PG to get them the ball so I could try to win now. If I didnt get Buck I was going to trade the doc and sell the farm for picks. Plan A went off without a hitch. We got it done.

If you couldn't get things done, what came up unexpectedly that prevented you from following through? Not to be a broken record but things got done. The lottery was a jackpot.

How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season? I think I am legitimate top 5 team and thats all you can ask for. Anything can happen, but to have an opportunity to compete for a championship in my 3rd year as a GM is a success.

Good luck gentlemen

Did your offseason plan work out?
Some of it did, some didn't.

What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?
I was focused on adding front court presence.
I had the 3 pick and the opportunity to add a prospect, but the math didn't really add up for me as far as potential comparisons. Honestly, if I would have picked at 3 I would have taken Danny Ainge, but the value of the pick jumped when IT slipped, but I didn't want him. So I added Natt thinking I could trade back into the lottery and grab a guy like Chambers or even Rambis, but that didn't play out. Settling for the additions of Whitehead and Cooper in separate trades does help, but not in the way I was looking for.

If you couldn't get things done, what came up unexpectedly that prevented you from following through?
I don't think many of us were looking at this draft in the same ways. As the picks came in, people were surprised by the talent that was falling to them and became inclined to use their picks or pay market value to acquire them.

How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season?
I feel like Washington takes a big step forward. We are making the playoffs.

Did your offseason plan work out?

TBH I didn't really have a plan. I thought my team would stay pat and nothing crazy would happen. Then one thing lead to another and now here we are. I thought I would be drafting a role player and moving on to the offseason with the same squad.

What were you trying to get done, and how did you do it?

Nothing initially. Then I thought, maybe I should go after Thomas. Not thinking it would ever happen. I put a few offers out there and finally got it done. I knew I would have had to give up a major player to get Thomas. Then I felt the itch to make another move to try to get Nance or Aguirre. Once I knew I couldn't get Nance, my goal was to find a way to get Aguirre. Was able to agree on a deal and feel good about where we were as a team.

How do you feel about your chances of success in the upcoming season?

I feel like this team has a long way to go and will be surprised if we make the playoff or have over 30 wins. This season will be basically a season where the rookies gain some experience and to learn what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Honestly, the offseason went pretty well. We were happy that Steve Johnson fell to us in the draft. We see him with his size and ability developing into a real rotational player for the team. Our players developed well during TC which is great for such a young team. We did go and get a backup center to attack some of the bigs we see throughout the year.

We were looking at maybe moving some pieces around for some scoring, but we didn't want to undervalue our players. We realize that defense doesn't show up as well on the stat sheet, but we built our initial draft around defense, so we are only willing to decline there with a significant increase offensively.

I was a borderline playoff team last year, I like my chances of making the same sort of impact. I don't see our team as developed to the point of a real contender, but we do like our chances at a playoff spot.

I didn't really have a set plan going in. I knew i could stand pat and do nothign and be fine assuming TC didnt destroy everyone (it didnt). That said, I was trying to be pretty active in the draft, but alot of negotiations fell through. Things happen. Even then I felt more confident in STANDING PAT than moving towards youth. We then pivoted to trading what remaining assets we had for depth, with Billy Knight as the inevitable get. He wasn't the top of our trade target lists, but hopefully his resourcefulness will come in handy. We've become a really deep team on the wing. As for success, I think we'll be fine barring injury. Hoping for a run for the division title, and avoid the Nets in round 1 lol
