The exciting thing about Thomas is that he has the potential to become one of the best all around guards in the league. I am hoping he can lead the franchise to the top of the mountain. It will take time for him to grow but I think once he reach his potentials he will be great. As far as the future, I think it could be a few seasons before things materialize as long as everyone remains healthy.Mike Lowry wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:38 am Absolutely NOBODY questioned your move to trade up for IT.
What about him is so exciting for your future, and how far off do you think that future will materialize?
He's in the running. McHale has a head start but I think Thomas is a strong candidate to be in the 12 years a Spur ring of honor. It's dependent on his play on the court.
No I don't think I gave up on him to soon. I liked what Toney brought to the team but wanted Aguirre. It may cost me a high pick in this year's upcoming draft tho. I liked Aguirre's height, age and skillset. i wanted him to be on the same timeline as Thomas. My plan is to try and add role players around my core guys any way I can whether it's draft, trade or FA. Whichever give us the best chance to win.WigNosy wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:24 pm Steve Duin, Blazer beat writer with the Oregonian
Do you feel you might have given up on Andrew Toney too soon? Do you plan to try to build around your young core primarily via draft, trade, or free agency?
Thank you. I appreciate it. I was shocked that he fell that far down. I was going to run it back with my guys from last season but decided maybe I should try at Thomas. I loved Natt he was the team's MVP but in order to get a player like Thomas I knew I had to include Natt. I do plan to start Thomas, Mark and Kevin on day 1. I want them to build chemistry and experience the up and down of a NBA season vs NBA talent. I think this will help in their grow process and make them better players.NY_Magic_Garrett wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 4:17 pm Alfred Pennyworth, New York Post
Congrats on Isiah, a no brainer trade. Seems like he just didnt quite fit into our Knicks' timeline, we couldn't believe he dropped to 3. Looks like you have kicked off a really nice future this draft, Isiah is still a bit raw though. Do you plan on rolling him out as your starter day 1? Let him, Mark, and Kevin build some chemistry early?
I liked his height and athleticism. I also wanted a guy around the same age as Thomas so they could grow together. I was iffy about it at 1st but decided what the hell lets try and get him. May cost us a high lotto pick but I think in the end it would be worth it. I really wasn't looking at others in the draft. I wanted to build a team around a good backcourt and with having McHale made it somewhat easier for me to take a chance.RPF wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:02 pm Stephen A Smith: Can you expand on what specifically impressed the Spurs organization about Mark Aguirre that made you trade back into the draft after drafting Isiah Thomas with the 3rd pick? What key attributes did you see in him that you felt were most crucial for the Spurs as you begin to build this team, perhaps compared to other players available in this draft?
Tank lol. It's seems every time I try to tank, I end up positioning myself for a playoff run.JNR wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:37 am GWR: What are your plans to insure that your pick doesn't go in the lottery this year? You have talent, but most of it is young.
