S72 NUGGETS PRESSER

Post by Jedihero »

*Back in the Saddle” by Aerosmith starts playing throughout the room.

Jedihero runs out and jumps the few stairs onto the platform, landing perfectly near the podium just in time to yell

“IM BAAAAAAAAAACK” along with the song.

Song cuts.

Jedihero: “We are so back baby!! Welcome to the S72 Pre-season presser for the Nuggets, and I am so excited you are all here. I have a few things to touch on so let me get these out of the way before I open it up for questions.”

“S71. Look, I told you at the beginning it was going to be a bad season. We were dying from tax payments and had to offload some good players. I had changed around a lot of lineups and tried different things, but honestly even though we had a playoff quality team, we weren’t going out there to win, (You’re welcome, Celtics.) We acquired a 2nd first rounder form the Pels and luckily for us they blew it. We had back-to-back picks in the top 10 which was a great way to start this season. I am beyond excited with our new duo, the Rui boys, Todoroki and Aizawa and will try to invest heavily in their futures to ensure we have a solid foundation going forward.

“We had a lot of money to spend in this years UFA, so I went out and grabbed a few mid-tier players as well as bringing RHJ back, because he means a lot to me as a manager and to this franchise. Excited about Jose as our starting PG. He will be a great player to run our offense through. Now, we don’t have our first rounder this year so we are actually trying to push this season, which is going to be tougher than it ever was because apparently everyone in the Omega conference had the same idea. As they say, it’s time to nutup or shutup and show this league I’m not just a pretty face, that I can put together a team that can hang with the best of them.”

‘Alright, that’s enough from me. Let me get to some questions from y’all so I can get back to watching more My Hero Academia. My god this show is amazing…”

Why are the nuggets so delusional at the idea that another team earned its way into the playoffs?

Because they didn't. I let them in. You see, there's a difference between playing well and earning a spot, and sneaking in at the newly created 8th seed in a bad conference that had multiple teams doing their best not to win.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: The Nuggets went hard in UFA on mid-tier players on mid-tier contracts as you mentioned, and you hit on quite a few. Which contract did you end up liking most? Are there any you wish you could take back? And did you go after any bigger targets, or did you focus solely on mid-level contracts?

Are the Rui boys getting any floor time this year? Or is it RHJ day all season in Denver
Somehow I manage.

The Net of Brooklyn: After a tumultuous off-season is it a relief just to focus on basketball issues on the court?

My favorite one, and kind of surprised he signed, was Jose Alvarado. An experienced PG who is a great addition to any team, even though he's older I thought someone would have wanted him badly so happy with that. Leonard McDonald is a great one too, especially since he ranked up in TC, and still young enough to play at that level for a few years. My gameplan going in was to hand out mid tier contracts to mid level players, I didn't want to give out any maxs even though I had the space, so I didn't use any of my offers on the higher tier players.

The current plan is so have them sit on IR for the year and watch and learn from the bench throughout the season. They still have a lot of growing to do and no need to rush them into anything.

Sometimes things happen and we just have to try our best to move on and focus on the season ahead. I am very excited to play some basketball and get working on the rebuild after a few years of hard pushing for playoffs.

Picks Emmington of the New Orleans Advocate,

While there is plenty to be excited about with this new season for the nuggets, are there any concerns with your roster that may give you pause from feeling like this can be a team that gets back to be a championship contender? And do you think you’ll be back sooner rather than later?

Yea definitely a few concerns. We have a lot of youth with is not something I have been used to dealing with, so I have to adjust myself to this new phase of the team. Also the lack of a league superstar. We've had Amos for a long time and he was one of the best in the league so it was easy to just rely on him. Now we need everybody to step up a bit and help carry this team forward.

Ronny Ronson, Revy Review: While Jose Alvarado is certainly an experienced player and did great in the playoffs last season for the Spurs; what steps are you/he taking to insure he stays in peak form and not be affected by the mile high altitude in his later years? Do you think he'll regress at all due the atmospheric pressure of leading this team to the playoffs?

Ron DeSantos -- Orlando Star

Seems like SF is a really crowded position for you. Plenty of youth and experience. Do you see a realistic path forward for Rui Aizawa?

I think it definitely takes time to get used to the atmosphere up here, he was only able to play 12 minutes in game 1 and pulled out due to a small injury and then bruised his hip 2 games later. We are being careful with him and working him into the season.

Oh yes, absolutely. By the time he is really ready to shine everyone else will have moved on. We might not even see him next year yet. We will see what this season brings.
