Welcome to my press conference for the S64 Toronto Raptors. I'm GM Penny, and I'm delighted to be here today to discuss our team's S63 highlights and our plans for the upcoming season.
Last season had its challenges as we stumbled right out of the gate due to injuries that hit our team hard. We faced growing pains, particularly on the offensive end, which resulted in us landing in the lottery once again. However, we see these challenges as opportunities for growth and improvement.
During the offseason, we focused on adding more playmakers to our roster, and we were fortunate to land Kamari Brown at #9 during the draft. Kamari Brown is an incredible athlete with an otherworldly 100 JMP, and we anticipate fans across the league will tune in every night to check out his latest gravity-defying dunks.
One of the biggest moves we made was acquiring Jordan Poole from the Charlotte Bobcats. Poole is a true Point Guard, and we are thrilled to have him join us in the 6ix. His presence will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our team's offense, and we expect significant improvements in that aspect of our game this season.
Training camp proved to be demanding for some of our players, with E.J. Liddell and Quincy Johnson suffering significant setbacks. However, we also had standout performances from Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, and Kamari Brown, who showed up big-time and compensated for those losses.
Overall, we are determined to rebound this season and make a strong push for the playoff hunt. I won't lie and say these past few seasons have been quite challenging for Penny. I thought I built a good team in a post-Mobley world but I have struggled so far on the job. I still think that with the additions we've made this offseason and the continued development of our players, we are well-positioned to achieve our goals and win more games. We are especially excited to see Jordan Poole lead the way on offense and expect our team to showcase significant improvements in that area.
Thank you for your attention, and now I'm happy to take your questions.
Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: We all should know by now that you are a branch of the AB/K100 tree. Can you explain as to how exactly you have managed to get better than the Cavs and Kings in the short amount of time you have been in the league?
Sham Smith, Bulls.com: You've got two players in very different situations with Kamari Brown and Jerald Honeycutt at the same position. With Brown being still raw in his rookie year, do you redshirt him in favor of Honeycutt to take a stab at rookie of the year next season, balance their playing time, or keep trying to move Honeycutt and feature Kamari as much as possible with the rest of your young line up?

This is an interesting question. I think working with AB/K100 has been helpful to get a basic understanding of the game but I think I had an advantage over the Cavaliers and Kings because I had a handful of win-now players that I traded away to get some of my current assets whereas they were starting from scratch so it is harder to rebuild. I think I have leaned on the guys more than they have to and because they have both won titles they know how to build teams whereas the Cavs and Kings more play the game to have fun and goof around with their friends.

I'm still on the fence about starting Kamari Brown and making Honeycutt my 6th man. Brown has definitely earned minutes this season just trying to decide if he is getting 25 minutes or 15 minutes.

Do you think you have the players to make the post season or will you be looking elsewhere for guy to help with your playoff push?
I think we have enough firepower right now but if a trade is out there I will not hesitate to pull the trigger.
