Hey everyone, Hope all is well with everyone in the league. Welcome to the Spurs preseason press conference. First off I would like to congratulate the Pistons on winning another championship. Last Season our team had a great regular season. Winning 68 games and kept the BDJ division title streak going and being the only team to win the division title under the BDJ name. Playoffs did not go how we expected losing in the conference finals and not being able to represent the conference in the finals. The series before losing to the Pelicans our team showed toughness in coming back from a trailing 1-3 to beat the Suns in 7. Even tho we did not make it to the finals I still think last season was successful.

Moving onto this season. We knew that we wanted to start over and rebuild. With the departure of Montoya we are starting to get the ball rolling on a rebuild. We have wanted to do this for a few seasons now. We will miss Montoya and wish him the best in Chicago. We know he will do well there. We wanted to put him in a great situation to win and that's what we did. This season our goal is to continue to rebuild and hopefully sometime down the line get back to the top of the mountain. We are looking forward to the process with Ingram being our centerpiece of the rebuild. Our young guys for the most part had good camps and our staff is grateful for that. We are going to teach these guys the spurs way of doing things so that they can be successful both on and off the court. Once they understand how we do things we think this will paly a role in getting back into contention. Until then Imma try to enjoy rebuilding, something I haven't done in a long time. Also I would like to congratulate Dorian Whitley on being the Newest member of the 12 years a Spur club.

I know I rambled about things but if anyone has any question feel free to ask and like always I try to answer to the best of my ability.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If you had made it to the Finals to face the Pistons last year, how would you have strategized against them with Montoya still on your team? Asking for a friend.

It would seem you still have a couple of players that could be on the move to fully facilitate a rebuild. What would it take for you to let Whitley or Galloway ring chase elsewhere?

My Plan would have been to play him at primarily Center and secondary position PG. Since the pistons center is a hacker would have tried getting him in foul trouble early on to take away another shot blocking big. Also at PG his height may have slowed down Cade some. With Montoya Skillset at Center he would have probably gave them problems especially if Haun was in foul trouble. If I had made the finals Montoya would have been the only option. Look back at the Suns Series, They were up 3-1 and I knew that if Montoya was on Her Hor his height would limit him just enough to win us games. Plus if you look at what he did offensively vs Her Hor after the adjustment You'll see that his output was better because of the matchup. I also did move Whitley and DC around too. Whit sometimes at PF was really good vs certain matchups.

With all of this said I probably would have still lost to the Pistons 4-2 lol.

It would seem you still have a couple of players that could be on the move to fully facilitate a rebuild. What would it take for you to let Whitley or Galloway ring chase elsewhere?

It will take some young guys that I can mold into good players. Whitley now is 12 years a Spur. Galloway Is still a really good player and lead the league in steals. His foul rating is good so teams wont have to worry about him fouling out while playing great perimeter defense

Brandon Ingram is so young, he could legit be 16 years a Spur. How do you always find these awesome team reset deals? Last time it was Whitley & Montoya for some bum, now Ingram for Montoya... it's truly a masterclass how you do this.

Johnathan Lewis was no bum at the time. I think the reason I am able to get players is because the player I send to the GM usually leads their team to a ring or two. I think Its fair value. In the case of getting Montoya and Whitley, Whitley at the time of the trade was the sure thing. Montoya wasn't supposed to blow up the way he did but he benefited from Spurs TCs I guess lol.
