Hello, friends. Do you like hearing about suffering? Then let's get to it.

Image

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The achievements of 65 wins, another division title and the #2 seed were overshadowed by Felicio's broken leg and a swift elimination in round 2. It was time, once again, for another offseason of misery.

Image

Faced with the prospect of paying the tax for the fifth season in a row and an aging core, I knew what I had to do. It was time to rebuild. Out went Tex Harrison, Ronnie Reynolds, and John Blakemore. In came Kory Manley, Antonio Blakeney, and Jericho Sims. These trades also opened up our cap space, which allowed for us to make some big splashes in UFA. Myke Henry and Mark Adkison took less money to play in sunny Orlando. Robert Mata even came back (YOU CAN BUY HIM FOR POINTS). We even brought back Matthew O'Connor for the memes.

So what does this all mean? Well, for now, nothing. This team isn't a title contender yet, and I'm ok with that. Not having that expectation on this season will at least mean it doesn't end in misery again. I fully expect this group to flirt with the last playoff spot at best. If we're in the lottery, so be it. The main goal is to identify who's part of the future going forward.

With that, I'll take your questions.

How do you feel this rebuild package compares to the previous one you got when you tore down the Boban & SuperFriends juggernaut over a decade(!) ago?

Oof, it’s been that long in sim time? Don’t tell me how long it’s been IRL.

That’s a good question. I actually had to look back at this:

Jaren Jackson Jr
Ash Ketchum
Wyatt Battle
Pick that I don’t believe became anything
Points

P. U. I guess I’ve gotten better at rebuilds induced by big men with broken legs. This current rebuild package looks more promising after the TC boost, but it’s up to me to actually make a contender out of the pieces.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If Felicio had not broken his leg last season and maintained his ferocity, would you have continued to compete given that the landscape of the league got a lot more open with teams like the Bulls and Clippers selling off as well?

The first piece you sold, Ronnie Reynolds, made me say dang it, Ronnie could have been mine. I got Sims level pieces. So I bought blakemore for a pick and points, and am happy, but wished I got Ronnie too. Seeing what Ed got for Olney, do you wish you sold me Ronnie? Or are you happy with Sims?

It would have depended on how the postseason played out, but I think anything short of a title probably would have lead to a rebuild anyway. Things felt stale with the group.

I do like Sims, but the other factor was freeing up max space for UFA. I think your pieces got boosted in TC, so the excellent named "Luigi Leathers" was not as appealing pre-TC. In the end, it looks like things worked out for everyone.

Your team still looks...good, I mean, you could win this division right?

Raby has 2 elite players. I have....one? And there may be a deal come day 60 that makes the Magic much worse.
