End of the year Buy a Team with $15

Post by AngryBanana »

As the year winds down and Fals9 counts down the days until he does not have to be media coordinator anymore, I felt that we needed one more article to commemorate the 50th season. I also need a few more media points and do not feel like doing a meme spree. So I decided to go to the well and redo a past article that I had fun doing. The Build a Team with $15 idea. So the link to the original article is here (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8856) with the general idea being that if you had $15 to build a dream PBSL team based on the Season 50 results, what team would you build? You need to purchase two guards, two forwards, and one center to complete your team. The players that are available to pick from will be broken into tiers based on their dollar amount from $1 to $5. So you can not pick all of the players from the $5 tier and call it a day. Now, I will say my science is not exact on picking who is in what tier, its just me looking at the site and thinking who falls where. So if you have a problem with my tiers, I do not care, enjoy paying $3 for a player you think should be $5.

Admittedly, the tiers were a lot harder to do this time around. First thing I noticed is that all of the $5 tier from my previous iteration of this are still on rosters and still playing meaningful minutes. Boban even won a 6th man of the year award this season, which is crazy to me. Secondly, the overall talent appears to be way deeper now than when it was the last time. To make it easier on myself I used the end of the year awards to help fill this out. I switched a few players around based on what I felt was best. After that, I just pulled some well playing guys now, combined with some up and coming players who look to be very good. Anyways, here is the list.

$5
Mitchell Robinson (Center)
Delmar Lopez (Forward)
James Wiseman (Forward)
Daniel Yandell (Guard)
David Leiker (Guard)
$4
King Kaldur’ahm (Center)
Gary Loredo (Forward)
Jordan Johnson (Forward)
Jonathan Lewis (Guard)
Lugentz Dort (Guard)
$3
Makur Maker (Center)
Mamadi Diakite (Forward)
Burt Gibson (Forward)
Cassius Winston (Guard)
Richard Hunt (Guard)
$2
Mike Burnham (Center)
Dennis Wolfgang (Forward)
William Pearman (Forward)
Dorian Whitley (Guard)
Chadwick Dangerfield (Guard)
$1
Matthew O’Connor (Center)
Fang Shuo (Forward)
Marcel McAlister (Forward)
Brandon Boston Jr. (Guard)
Zaire Wade (Guard)
My Picks would be as such:

Delmar Lopez (Forward) - $5 : Much with the same reasoning as my previous Boban choice. Delmar is the best player in the game right now. He is able to do it all from an offensive and defensive side of the game. Greeple was even gloating how for a while this season, Delmar had more points that mins averaged. He was MVP this season, all first team, and All Defense second team. Combine that with his 37.5 PER, OEFF of 117.2 and a DEFF of 102.3 and you are looking at a very scary player. The Lakers had over 60 wins this season, if Delmar was out for a long period of time like Bias was, they would have been a close to .500 team.

Makur Maker (Center) - $3 : My second pick was a player on my own team who I drafted in Season 49 with high hopes for. Maker is in my mind going to be the next dominant Center in PBSL. He has already shown flashes of greatness, getting third team all-league this season. He posted a stat line of 16.8 PPG, 9.1 REB and 4.3 AST on a .574/.922/.212 shooting line. He also carried a PER of 22.2 this season and carried the offense when Wade went down. He could still work on not fouling as much and get better on the defensive end, but he is a good all around presence who will become a great post player in just a few years.

Mamadi Diakite (Forward) - $3: I then shifted my thought to who would be a good compliment to Diakite in the post, and I went to Diakite in very little time. With the Pacers beating me in the playoffs (with Diakite being a huge factor) my thought was If you cant beat the player, have them join your fake roster of a fake roster! Both Diakite and Maker could be switched between PF/C with ease with their quickness, but I would like Diakite at PF since he is a little bit shorter and quicker. He also has a 80 3PS with good rebound and post skills to make a better defensive version of Grayson Allen. Ill take that all day on this team.

Cassius Winston (Guard) - $3: Now that I have my post figured out all I need now is the guards. I wanted to ride the young gun train, so while Dangerfield was interesting to me, Winston was my choice for a few reasons. I have always really like Winston. You can ask K-100, I have routinely badgered him with offer after offer (mostly terrible ones as a joke) for Winston, hoping that he would eventually brake down and trade him. It never happened. Winston is another guy, where while he is on the short side, he can do a lot of things you want from a guard very well. He can shoot, is a very good facilitator and is efficient. He has a TS% of .569 and a OEFF/DEFF split of 114/102.3. He does foul a little more than I would like, but it being on a team with this next player should help alleviate the defensive responsibilities.

Zaire Wade (Guard) - $1: Ahhhh, it must be fate. Im left with one dollar and Wade is sitting in the $1 slot. To be fully transparent, I had Wade at $2 and moved him to insert Dangerfield in the $2 range. I was gifted with Wade a few seasons back as a Y/P player. I will admit at times since drafting him I have been nervous I picked the wrong player, having passed on Dorian Whitley, but I think while Whitley has developed his offensive game quickly, Wade will be the better overall player as soon as next year. I have already seen flashes of his great play having Averaged 18.5PPG, 6.7REB, and 5.8 AST while only fouling 1.7 times in 37 mins is very promising. He also still has room to grow at only 23 years old, where He could still develop a 3ps which is the last true weakness in his game. Having a backcourt of Wade and Winston will be a nightmare on the court for any team we play for the next 8 years.
Comment down below how you would spend your $15 and why you would pick those players, you could even comp them to my team in a hypothetical matchup, where you can tell me why my team is trash!

C- Mike Burnham ($2)
PF- Delmar Lopez ($5)
SF- James Wiseman ($5)
SG- Zaire Wade ($1)
PG- Chadwick Dangerfield ($2)

Lopez and Wiseman together might be enough to overpower most teams 2 on 5. Dangerfield is the best pure PG in the league in terms of distributing and thats all he'd be needed for in this lineup. Wade is cheap and can score if needed and handle the ball in a pinch. Burnham can defend and rebound enough and not get in the way on offense, which is perfect when playing the enforcer role for studs like Delmar and Wiseman.

C - Matthew O'Connor ($1)
PF - Marcel McAlister ($1)
SF - Jordan Johnson ($4)
SG - Daniel Yandell ($5)
PG - Lugentz Dort ($4)

Always been a big fan of these guys - highly skilled + their athleticism makes them matchup nightmares across the lineup. Johnson, McAlister, and Yandell are swiss army knives with their versatility so it would be fun to slide them up and down the lineup. I like playing fast-paced too so scorers are a premium. These guys are not scared to shoot so they would be a perfect fit in this fantasy lineup.
