Topic : Contenders:
Toni Reali: The Hawks started off the season looking primed to make a run, but sent off Jermey Lin for Kris Middleton; are they still unbeatable or has someone else risen to be the favorite ?

JNR: I don't get the Middleton trade for Atlanta. They already have tons of wings and Lin was very important to their offense, which is first in the league in assists. Now you have Nate Robinson leading the charge, who isn't even the best passer on the team -- Joakim Noah is, in case you're wondering. It's clear the Hawks want to be a more fluid scoring team with scorers at every position, but I'm not sure if it will help or hurt when it comes to the postseason. Then again, they did win 6 straight after trading Jeremy Lin, so maybe we should just calm down and wait before declaring them dead. Hawks should be fine.

Inner_GI: Yes, they are certainly still the favorite to win the division, and I think a slight favorite for the championship. They completely destroyed the Warriors and the Raptors last sim. They have the best offense in the league. The one worry I have for this team is their league worst 3P% defense. In the playoffs, if a team like the warriors gets hot in the finals... Hawks may be in trouble. With that said, I'd be shocked if the Hawks are not in the finals.
FYI: Nate Robinson average 18-5-5 in his first sim without Jeremy Lin.

Wait so you spend the bulk of your time with the evidence against them and say they'll be fine? Which one is it?

JNR: I see Around the Horn doesn't believe in the virtue of seeing both sides of a debate. I think the Hawks will be fine, although I question the trade. Both of those statements can be true.

Ian Quailmen: I have no idea what Wig is doing with that deal. Nate Robinson is far from a pure PG, and even further from a long term option. This definitely opens the door for other teams in the east, because he has a legitimate and true weakness at the 1 and 2 now. And I don't care how many Nate Robinson stat lines you show me.

JNR: I'd worry more about that if there were other threats in the East to dethrone them, but there really aren't. The three through eight seeds are separated by 5 games, and none of those look like they'll be able to challenge the Hawks after surviving that gauntlet. The only way to beat the Hawks is to slow them down and force turnovers, and the only team that comes close to that is the Wizards. And call me a doubting Thomas but until the Wizards put together a big playoff run, which they haven't done since the 90s, I'm not ready to crown anyone else in the conference.

toni Reali: Sub Question, would you rather 10 Nate Robinson sized Jermey Lins or one Jeremy Lin sized Nate Robinson?

JNR: Definitely one Jeremy Lin sized Nate Robinson. I'm only allowed to play 5 Nate Robinson sized Jeremy Lins at once, and the post matchup would be a nightmare.

Ian Quailmen: Well, Thomas, I think you can consider a few other surging teams to challenge the Hawks. The Heat can never be counted out; they are as deep as ever, and despite some of their in season struggles, they continue to stay in the top of the East. The Raptors have Bosh and Lowry aka Minnesota 2.0. They struggled a bit, but will be find come playoff time. And the Bucks, well anything I say about the Bucks will be considered a homerism and we saw what happened to the last homer here, so I'll just say you can't count them completely out yet either.

Ian Quailmen: 10 Nate Robinson sized Jeremy Lins, because then my squad would be deeper than the Spurs at least.

Toni Reali: From on the court to off the court. The much maligned media coodinator czar NickMalone took a lot of L's last season but ran unapposed last year. He thinks he did a good job last year, and now this year he's come back and was confused on the points limit. Does he deserve to keep the job, or does someone else need to step up and take the job?

Someone else needs to step up. He's constantly misinformed on his duties and the rules. Also, there was a huge controversy last year in which he doubled/tripled, down on. He later reversed that decision once it wasn't in his best interest... that's shady. Add to that, the on the court issues... the Hornets need is undivided attention. Seriously... where is that team going?

JNR: Someone needs to step up and take the job, but I think we need to look at a global issue here. Everyone complained about him last year, but you said it Reali: no one else opposed him, despite claiming they would and crying about how poorly Nick did. It's not enough to just say Nick is doing a bad job. Someone needs to actually step up and make changes that will help the league. If I wasn't the HOF Coordinator, I'd step up, but I saw at least three GMs, two of which are or were in this game, say they would step up last year only to drop out. So yes, Nick needs to be removed, but someone needs to force the league's hand, or else we're just complaining for no reason.

Ian Quailmen: It's a tough job to police Media Points in this league. Nick is doing a good job, but sometimes just takes the wrong stance. But for every half empty there's a half full. Nick is a man of conviction who stands for what he believes is right (even if it's wrong). But I fully expect people to stand up and not back down this off-season, people like NOLa who was all talk. I personally backed out because Nick appeared to have learned from his mistakes. My step down was for a 2nd chance, for a step in the right direction.

JNR: The voters love repeat winners and he leads the league in scoring, so I think Chris Bosh is taking home the trophy for a third time.
