S58 Thunder And Lightning

Post by AngryBanana »

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a good off season and tried to enjoy the break. Let’s get started with how we did last season

We went into the season excited to see how AB would play with Les Kim and Chadwick. They did well together, but the fit just did not sit well with us for the long term. We wanted to find people to go with AB long term and did we find a good running mate in Charles Alleman. It’s very fitting for us that we now had, as our two core guys, names of AB and Charles. Anyways. We tried to get our 1 back, still waiting to hear back from the Hawks on that trade. After not getting our one back at the deadline though, we moved ahead towards the playoffs. Got in, gave the pistons their toughest challenge they had , and then bowed out. It was an interesting season that had way more fluidity and involvement from my end than I thought I was going to have, and I’m happy about it.

This offseason, we felt the same way about Cuevas that we did about Kim. He just didn’t fit what we needed, overlapping with AB too much. So to the trade wire we went. It was initially shaky, but we wound up getting Anas (a target we tried to get last season) in a deal that we felt got a very interesting third core player for us. Having two dominant bigs to go with a guard is not something we have tried before from a team building experience, and look forward to the experience. The only other player type we would realistically like to get is a pass first PG, and I think this team will be good to go long term. We have a few good prospects outside of that, but this team is for sure built for the long term and not for the immediate, which is exciting for us to see. I expect to make the playoffs with AB and Alleman being dominant and having some vets who can still contribute (Wiseman and McAllister.) This te is a playoff contender as built for sure in our conference. However, we aren’t attached, per se, to anyone outside of the big 3 mentioned above - so we can also sell any of the others for younger players to build with too.

Starting 5 might be:
AB
Bryce James
Wiseman
McAlister
Alleman

Can we expect to see Wiseman Lough Anas and Alleman all on the floor at the same time and why is that not your starting 4 with AB? With Lough at SF probably, right?

In your most recent article you called #1 pick Jose Alvarado Gary Alvardo. Was this purposefully hilarious or hilariously whoops-ful?
Somehow I manage.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: How does being in a conference where so many teams are rebuilding, but one team is far and away ahead of the pack affect your decision-making as a GM? Do you think anyone has a chance to make it past the Pistons?

I think there will be several adjustments through the season for who my starters will be. This one does sound appealing, maybe even having Carner in there as well instead of Lough.
Who knows!

It makes it tricky. Where I can try my hardest to fully tank and get a good pick or I could compete get points from winning and hope my core is good as is or build through trades. The first part just seems unrealistic to do given the quality team I have here. They are not going to be a great team, but they will probably keep me above .500.

The pistons team really hasn’t changed my opinion of what to do that much in that I was already on this path before realizing how good they are/going to be. This offseason just further emphasized that I should build on younger players. The goal is to peak as the pistons regress, and before other teams who are also rebuilding. I think with Alleman and AB I’m already on a good trajectory, but time will tell.

With preseason now out of the way, what is the biggest surprise to you about your team's performance??

Justin Bieber, Teremana.com: Cavs are making tremendous noise in the Maravich Division. Any concerns on the dominance performance by the Cavs in the preseason? There's no question jlmarines is a workhorse, ruthless, beast mode, SOB GM . Are the Thunder scare?

you mention wanting a pass-first PG, but do you think Larry Hatfield might be the long-term solution for OKC?

When do you think AB can make a run at the MVP award?

It’s hard to put stock into these things but I’ve got one good and one bad so far looking at them.

Good: Lough‘s fg %. He looks ready to contribute this season, which I will need with Anas still not ready to contribute.

Bad: fouls. Charles and AB both. Woof

The Cavs need to shore up a few things, like their free throws and points allowed to get to a beast mode type situation.

I liked Hatfield enough to cut another pg who I also felt could make that impact. So yeah, he could fit the billing, especially after pre-season. Still would like to keep the options open in the event I can upgrade.

Let’s give him three more seasons and then he will be in serious contention I think. He needs to mature a little more I think.

Is Lough still a long-term prospect for Boban-ing or will he be more of a typical project player?

Unfortunately, I don’t even have the points for training anyone this season, let alone bobaning someone
