Tragic Hour

Post by false9 »

Hey guys. We’re back. Again. Let’s get this over with, to hell with the Magic Johnson jpeg.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before- we had a great regular season. 66 wins and the top seed overall in the league. Sure enough, what followed was a conference finals defeat to a Bucks team without Hintz. Being clearly dominated by a better team resulted in disappointment and the return of sim ennui.

So what else was left to do but blow it up? Out went Dort and Henry, and in came some promising young bugs and points. I cleared enough cap space for a max offer, but unfortunately could not tempt anyone to sign. Mitch Robinson, Kory Manley, and Mark Adkison are still around (even though everyone can be had for the right price). So in spite of my desire to tank, I think I’ve got a playoff team on my hands.

What does this mean big picture? I don’t know. There’s still more moves to make to become a championship team, but I think things have to get worse before they get better.

With that, I’ll take your questions.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: With the Magic selling this offseason and the conference being extremely bottom heavy as it is, is there any scenario where you're convinced to try to re-gear up to contend during the regular season?

It would seem that the future of your front court is set with Tony Parris and Ken Dirks, both of which had great training camps. Do you see them both as long-term options? And what roles do you see each of them having this season?

I won’t close the door completely, but it’s probably unlikely. I only have about 19 million in cap and the cupboard of assets has not been replenished yet. I’m always willing to listen though!

When are we going to hammer out our Manley deal? We have to uphold the history of tradesie-backsies

Is this season practically a wash, or do you have any hopes or expectations for a playoff berth or decent pick or what?
Somehow I manage.

Dirks is the starter and expect some off the bench minutes for Parris at this point. I'm expecting a little scoring and OREB from Dirks and solid defense from Parris.

Long-term: these guys could easily be foundational pieces or valuable trade chips. Either way, they've got a bright future in the league.

Please check back in when you have accumulated rebuilding pieces and we can do the usual switcharoo.

Going back to the days of yore and churning for points/assets would be great. However, I'm kinda content going on mini-cruise control and re-evaluating after day 60.
