OKC Thunder Presser

Post by AngryBanana »

So…. About last season…

We were in a bit of a frantic for a minute there. We went all in and did not win so left with a large bill and Wade going to UFA, I was very unsure of what was going to happen. Thankfully I knocked a few articles out, made a few trades and was able to salvage my PBSL life. Out goes Wade and Maker and in comes AB, Cuevas and Nix (just last year).

We overachieved last year. We were fortunate to have AB play out of his mind all season, and The supporting cast did what it needed. We even got to the playoffs when my goal was to tank to a top pick to find my compliment to AB.

Going into the off-season I knew I had several options. First priority was to move Delmar. Got him out of the way, so next was to decide how to go about the Cuevas/Nix dilemma. I personally liked Cuevas more, but Nix was a more ready player to compete. I went with the gut and offered a competitive deal to Nix, that was accepted, then offered below asking for Nix who went for way more than I projected. The second thing I did not project this off season was Chadwick and Les Kim. Both players kinda came to me. In that other GMs were like, “hey, we think you could use him”. Bada bing, bada boom - two new guys in the Thunder locker room.

UFA went ok, I got a few complimentary parts, but I don’t think I’m ready to compete yet. I almost think moving on from Kim for another big who needs more development would be better for this team. So I’ll ride out to day 60 then look at where I’m at. I’ll trade for points with people like Obi and Clark or I’ll stay course for a playoff spot since I don’t own my pick. Oh. I also trader for a behemoth, so I’m interested in seeing how he develops too.

Starting 5 I think will be:
Chadwick
AB
Loredo
Kim
Heard

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: How does the general weakness of your conference coupled with the growing beast in Detroit factor into your long-term decision making with the Thunder organization? Do you think there's a window where OKC will be able to make waves before Detroit's current build dissipates?

It’s funny. I think with how AB played last year I really could be a playoff contender in our conference. However, I looked at my team at the overall league and decided it was not my time yet. Regardless of what the pistons have going on, and how they will bow out before the championship somehow.

I think the league overall is evolving again. Where I think the team I have this season, would be a top 5 overall maybe five years ago, is a borderline playoff team this year. So with that I need to reassess what it is that I think I need to build around AB, such as maybe two to three other purple potential players.

Your top 2 players in Cuevas and Blakeney have fairly similar attributes. Would you send one out to fill a more complimentary role?

one of my favorite books as a kid was David Moore's magnum opus

you have had your fair share of dynamic duos in previous builds so as you prepare another one with Antonio Blakeney which former PBSL dynamic duo would you most want him and whatever teammate you choose to emulate?

I think I might try something a little different here. AB, Wade, and Pete are all different guards. Where AB will probably be the best scorer of the three. So I almost want to see what building a ridiculously offensive juggernaut would look like. Almost testing out if I took Whitley instead of Wade way back when. Which under that stance, no previous bulls had the combo to do that. The nearest thing I had was Pete and JJ. So I’d have to say finding ABs JJ would have to be my goal then.

Justin Bieber, Teremana.com; There's no question your roster is full of bada boom players. During pre season, your opponent average 121 pts per game. Are you concern how your team performed on defense?

I would not send AB out obviously, but I think Cuevas is a hard sell too. He is on a pretty good contract right now and has played the three before. So I almost look at it as twice as nice.

However if I was able to move him for a better complimentary piece, I wouldn’t say no

Good defense is a faster paced offense

Based on our trade talks, you seemed very excited about Brian Lough as a project. Will he be a red shirt this season or will he get some minutes?

How does it feel getting Chief Keef'd with Big Al Sosa going yellow/yellow?

I think he will wind up playing because of the depth at the forward position. He is also already one of my better defensive bigs, which is something I will need as well.

The fact you know what Chief Keef is, yes. You could have said anyone and I would have said yes...
