San Antonio Spurs Preseason Presser

Post by Eazy P »

Good Morning and welcome to the San Antonio Spurs preseason press conference. We thank you for joining us today as always. First off We would like to send congrats again to the Sixers GM on winning his first title and whipping up on our team. We also like to thank them for not sweeping us. Last season didn't end how we want but the best team in our opinion won it all. We did have a great year as a team but couldn't finish the job. I know the fans were disappointed that a 71-11 team didn't win it all but sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles. We will try again to get to the mountain top and make the city of San Antonio proud

With that we are moving on to a new season. A season with a major change. We parted ways with our 2nd member of the 12 years a Spur club Dan Yan. He was a great player and did tons of community work in the city of San Antonio. He also helped bring 2 championships here and will be greatly missed. We as a organization wanted to put him in the best position to win another title as we knew we were going to move on after this past season. We wish him good luck and can't wait to retire his jersey once he's retired from the league. We got Lyle Galloway in return and hope that he becomes a player that helps us get back to the top. I also want to say that the guys came into training camp motivated. Lyle and Montoya had really good camps and are looking to carry torch along with Whitley and OG that Yan has left behind. Montoya feels like he has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove he's going to be a force. I think we have a playoff team even with Yan's departure, how deep will this team go, only time will tell.

If there's any question as always we will answer to the best of our ability. Thanks again for joining us today.

Random Reporter: With Yandell having moved on, will OG be the next Spur to be traded this season, or is it not yet quite his time?

It depends on how I feel. We are listening to offers but depending on return/how the season is going at the time will determine if we move on from OG. He's a good play offensively and defensively.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Despite getting rid of Daniel Yandell, the Spurs once again look like a team that could contend with a championship in what was supposed to be a reset year. With Whitley's contract expiring after this year, where do you draw the line between trying to avoid the tax versus trying to win it all?

You always seem to get guys I love. What are your thoughts on getting Nick Lynch for so cheap ? Also what does your front court look like and any concerns on size mismatches ?

Yeah it was supposed to be a reset year. I was throwing out a few offers to players not thinking they would sign and they did. When that happened I though he'll why not trying again. My plan is to get my tax bill into a certain tier to where my bill isn't high. I also plan on doing things I haven't done in long time. A few articles and meme thread entries. But if this season starts off slow or not how I like before the deadline, I will go in a different direction and reset.

I didn't think Lynch would sign here especially with Yan already gone. I just threw that contract out there not thinking he'll accept. We happy to have him apart of the team and think he still has a good bit left in the tank to help us win some games. I also think our frontcourt will be fine. We had two 6-9 guys starting for us in our frontcourt last season and they did well until a guy named Wiseman showed up LOL. There aren't too many of those type of players in the league that are built like Wiseman tho. Also with Montoya improving he'll get us some steals while OG get blocks and rebounds. Lynch can help us on the offensive boards. I think we will be ok in regards to our big men. If not that's on us as a coaching staff.

Who is the new alpha for you with Yandell gone? aka who is further along the "12 Years a Spur" timeline?

It's between Montoya and Whitley. They both could actually do it in consecutive seasons if everything goes right. Montoya a few years ago would've not been on that list as some people on here knew I offered him up for trade a few times. Now that he has had some really good TCs he may be 13 or 14 years a Spur.

Do you think Whitley has the chance at an MVP season this year?
