Hey there, fellas. GM Ian Quailmen here, zoom conferencing in for a presser since honestly I've mailed it in over the past few seasons, I wanted to avoid the hard questions. But, since this off-season, I guess we decided to flip the switch, the other half of my bi-polar nature took the reigns of my brain. We got tired of losing I guess. Let's go through the order of operations this offseason:
- We really shat the bed last season - we didn't bottom out, but we were absolute garbage (as expected). Fortunately, we still managed a top 5 pick and a top 7 pick from the Blazers (Thanks!).
- We traded up - We capitalized on having two 1sts to trade up to #2 overall to select Bam Abedayo, who we LOVED in the draft.
- We checked out after our pick - Lots of things happened after pick #2, but honestly we can't tell ya. So many stars were on the move, and some great players were given away for draft picks who were then cut or traded away for a few points. Wish we had been more tuned in.
- We checked back in 30 minutes before moratorium started - We made a couple last second scrambles to make pre-moratorium trades.
- We traded Bam Abedayo for Chadwick Dangerfield - Chadwick is someone who we LOVED in his draft so much we traded Fox for him years ago. Then we traded Chadwick for Bjorn to we let walk to the Nuggets for a max (lol), but then eventually got Fox back. And then traded fox for a pick that would become Pick #7 which we used to trade up for Bam which we used to trade for Chadwick. Circle of Milwaukee Life.
- We S&T'd Cain for Hector - We liked Cain a lot, he's a good low usage guy that plays defense. Kinda need that right now lol. But instead of matching a contract we felt was a bit of an overpay, we opted to see if Hector was available. He'd be a great fit next to Williams down low... and the rest is history.
- We pulled off a multi-S&T of Epic Proportions to get Dennis Wolfgang - JNR and I both knew we had a longshot to make this happen as it required us resigning a combined 3 players at relatively competitive contracts. Fortunately for us both, it worked out. I got Wolfie at a less than supermax, and JNR has a LOT of depth on his roster to make his reset a fun one. Dong Bone is the modern Cliff Paugh.
- We really didn't sign fcuk all the rest of UFA - After trading for Wolfie, Hector, and Dangerfield, our depth that we prided ourselves on was depleted, and unfortunately through UFA, we weren't really able to make things happen like we hoped. We did sign a few people like David Spaulding and Nathan Aker though. We were super excited to get Titus Edmundson on a min.
- We saw Titus Edmunson come into TC a piece of crap and cut him - Well so much for that, Titus sucks and we cut him. We cut a couple others too just because it's not worth keeping that dead weight around.
- We got Onyeka Okongwu back, among a few other nice Waiver Dudes - Onyeka Okongwu was someone the stupid Knicks signed during UFA round 1 when they already had 10 bigs on their roster. Eventually he got cut and then boosted in TC. We were happy to get him back during waivers, along with Greg Brown who was someone we had been eyeing for a while. Our big depth was a weakness, but Waivers made it into a strength.
