MexicanMamba is always impressive with the transaction churn. He addressed last season's weakness inside by swinging deals for Zeke Nnaji and Rob Bonnett. To top it off, he took care of his guard glut and picked up Jordan Johnson. The Clippers are once again title contenders and it's due to Roberto's shrew moves.
I'm voting for my man Carlos. He had himself a nice trio in Yandell, Whitley and Montoya and decided to cash-in some assets, and got good value, to beef up his weak spots by adding superstar OG and defensive ace Miguel Thomas. He's then went and flexed his way to the top seed in the conference and has as good a shot as anyone to take home the chip.
In a season where people saw two purples on the Lakers and crowned they asses, a few GMs stepped up and still went full speed ahead anyway. AB did that, packing their salaries with Franklin and Waters, dealing for Fox, and battling injury to be the best team in Omega without a purple current player. AB's also been contributing in big ways that don't show up on the stat sheet: running the Sim Vegas FORUM jobs (yes, including Pick 'Em, a sub-branch of Sim Vegas, which includes both Pick 'Em and the original Sim Vegas, both of which are housed in the Sim Palazzo). He's also helped usher in some of the most fun and active GMs, and the AB tree has strong roots in the league.
I feel like Chad (DarthVegito) deserves a nomination here.
Was his tax predicament his own fault/doing? Yes. Did his team, despite being the most expensive of all time, vastly underperform? Sure. And I realize I'm not making a very strong case right now, but man what a magic trick he did to get under the tax. Was it costly? Yes. He lost Caruso, and replaced him with Kim Lewis (not an inspiring tradeoff). But in a landscape where the league is a collective $400m over the cap, he somehow swung deals with the only teams that could help him out of jail. If a requirement of GMOY is 'this guy HAD to do xyz', Chad accomplished his xyz just as well as any of the top GMs. But, no, this should go to Mamba, Greeple, AB, or Carlos, right?
Jon came into this season with already having the best player and managed to keep his best UFA, while also signing the best player in UFA to a max deal. While I know everyone expected him to have the record he had, he actual did an outstanding job to get to the record he has. He had to deal with injuries pretty much every sim where he probably was missing one purple more than having both this season.
Outstanding nominations and reasons for all GMs above. I'm flipping the script and nominating K100.
This guy has put up with me for at least 2 or 3 seasons now as I lambasted him relentlessly. I'm probably not even done yet. And while he may have underperformed this season by some standards, or is not discussed in the big 4 juggernaut team conversation, he's the first team outside of that discussion and has proven he can pull off the upset. I will never let K100 fly under my radar, much like the GMs nominated above. And to boot, he's the only team with a winning record against the best team in the league this year, the Lakers. Oh, Nuggies too, but they did not demoralize me in their victories. So well done, sir.
