2040-2041 76ers Press Conference

Post by K-100 »

Another season begins. To recap last year, season 50 was the long awaited breakthrough for the 76ers. The squad managed to gain momentum after the All-Star Break to secure the Williams Division title and the Omega #2 seed. The first two rounds against the Wizards and Clippers were decisive wins, thanks in large part to a steady dose of good frontcourt play. The Conference Finals were a rematch against the #1 Lakers, but much to greeple's chagrin, Delmar and friends have not yet cracked the K-100 code. Maybe this year. Then the League Finals. The Finals were ugly. Blown out in every game, but as is usual in March when the clock strikes midnight every Cinderella story has to come to an end. Congrats to the Chicago Bulls for winning their 5th title.

The offseason was pretty humdrum. The Sixers were able to trade into the draft and select an interesting project big, Les Kim from San Diego State at #15. Management is excited to see him develop among the next generation of Sixers. In free agency, the Sixers were able to lure several older vets vying for one more chance to compete for a ring by inking Luka Doncic, Jerry West, William Jackson, Slim Jenkins, Chris Pallies, and fan favorite Colin Smallwood. The Sixers were feeling great until Cassius Winston suffered a significant setback in training camp. However, all is not lost because this is still a playoff team. The Process worked. But whether or not, this squad is a championship-quality team now is the question. The Sixers were a team in-waiting prior to last season, but this season Philadelphia is at a crossroads.

What is the missing piece that you feel would change your team from crossroads to back to a leader of the pack? Is it a certain position? Or a general aspect of your team?

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: What does your starting lineup look like? Wiseman at the 3 and Jackson at the 4?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: First, congratulations on a great season as Omega Conference Champions! Anyway...you've had a core of Winston, Toppin, and Wiseman for a long time, and though they're all peak players now, the decision to sign them all to big 3rd contract looms. Is there any situation or timeframe where you see it being optimal for a major shakeup?

Justin Bieber, Teremana.com: Congrats for making to the finals and losing. Rumors has it, 76ers fans are not happy with their GM. You are the one of the highest paid GM and no ring in 10 years. Wiseman took his frustration to Myspace and posted pictures of Cavs excellent practice facilities. 76ers big 3 have not spoken since the Championship game. Is the 76ers open for trade talk? If so, who?

Reliable bench scoring. There were a handful of games last season that slipped away because the starting unit had an off night or were simply contained by an opponent's good defense. I think what sets apart a good team from a great one is a squad's resourcefulness to win close games when the star players are not firing at all cylinders.

Thanks - wish it was a more competitive series, but the Bulls clearly were the better team so hats off again to a great season.

Good question. I think this season will be the deciding factor. If the squad is able to stay competitive and make a deep playoff run then I think the core stays together long-term. But if this season ends in an early playoff exit, it will be time to face the music and hit the trade block.

How was it like to make the Finals last year and do you think you need to change your teams strategy for this season?

Getting to the Finals was a lot of fun. I drafted Wiseman, Toppin, and Winston in consecutive drafts over one calendar year (!) ago so it was cool to see them finally make it to the Finals after back-to-back-to-back 2nd round exits to the eventual Alpha Conference (and 2x League) champs. Getting close 3x in a row was a tough pill to swallow but last season's breakthrough made it worth it.

Definitely changing my approach to this season. I have dealt the rights to my 1st round pick for five seasons in a row now so the asset pool is dried up in Philly. Les Kim is my first project in a long time, and the 76ers are excited to work with him as he develops in the coming years.
