S48 - Proposition 1A - League Contraction

Post by garbageman »

LHamilton of the Cavs and kucoach7 of the Trailblazers have both indicated they will be resigning from their posts as GMs, and aside from Wildcard, it doesn't seem like anyone has folks to recruit for the league. While I don't mind having stewards from time to time to keep things afloat, I don't want teams to be stewarded on long-term bases just to have those teams exist in our universe.

Furthermore, with S50, I was going to do a 10 season reshuffle to the divisions anyway, so that gives us a couple options.

1. Steward the teams for a season. This gives us a season to try and recruit more GMs. Especially since both teams are in a pretty good place.
2. Contract the league down to 24 teams. Contracts on contracted teams would be voided and players would go directly to UFA. The divisions would be reshuffled and playoffs would drop down to 12 teams with all division winners getting 1st round byes.

If we fill just one of these spots (or someone reverses course by end of the playoffs and wants to stay), this vote is moot and we will continue with 26 teams.

I say rip the band-aid off and contract if there's no takers by the end of the playoffs. We've known about these openings for awhile with no replacements. Get the feeling another season won't change it.

That said, I volunteer to steward now for those sweet, sweet points.

A FEW MORE NOTES

In answer to a question I got, if the league contracts, re-expansion will be a harder flip to switch. We would need multiple teams (not doing an expansion for just one or two teams, especially if we vote for contraction and then all the sudden, people start referring folks), and I am not really for the idea of an expansion draft for new, unproven GMs who might not stick around.

Also, the poll will go for a week from the original post date, and vote changing is allowed.

As we have 2 new GMs who have volunteered to take on the Blazers and the Cavs, this vote is moot.

I've heard reports that we have a 3rd prospective GM interested in joining. Expect expansion discussion/vote soon. I would love to not have to turn anyone away. The more participation we have, the better.
