Knicks Preseason Presser

Post by drkavarga »

It's time once again for another Knicks Preseason Presser to talk about the greatest team in the history of sports, the New York Knicks. There's been a lot of changes this season and rightfully so but at the same time we're transitioning toward a long term plan. We're going back to my original format of a big three with complimentary players put around them. We won a championship doing that years ago so I figured going back to the basics is the route to take. Ironside, Rickly, and Jackson are the big three in this scenario. I also brought in Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Matthew O'Connor to shore up our defense. Quackenbush is the future while Minter and Battle make for a great combo at PF. Lujan was a key rotational player that we kept and I feel along with Wentz give us some bench depth that some teams don't have. Radke and Hilburn also are some good depth players for us. The other good thing we have going is cap space. Some teams broke the bank, we decided to take a more frugal approach even though I did shell out $30MM for two big contracts and go the depth route after the Ironside trade. That will be our long term approach as well. Some of the contracts signed around the league were atrociously high but that just helps us out because it means for less competition in UFA and RFA in the upcoming seasons so they can just keep on spending their money. We'll definitely be a team that can compete this season and possibly push for the playoffs with some luck. I'm thinking we'll be in the 30-45 win range somewhere in there. I'm definitely excited about what the future holds especially after how last season went. I'm much more optimistic going forward with the team we have now.

Gotta be honest, usually the Knicks preseason presser has a lot of chest pounding and threats to the league that you will wreck us but this presser your much more tame. Has the game finally broken Dr. Varga and more realistic expectations settled in?

As part of finally paying off your taxes, did you sell your return key?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Your coach's recommended depth chart has DPOY/ROY Matthew O'Connor out of the rotation completely. Do you plan on being more hands on with the depth chart and game planning this season, or are you going to continue to stay out of coaching decisions? Either way, if you could change anything about the recommended depth chart or gameplan that the Knicks rolled with in preseason, what would it be?

Do you expect Rickly and Ironside to carry over their production from the preseason?

The only thing that's broken around here is the bank with some of these contracts. I guarantee there's teams in tax hell that won't make the playoffs so it was all for nothing for them.

The Depth Chart will be more hands on this season going by that. I would have O'Connor as the starting Center while using the PF's as a rotation but both getting big minutes. Lujan getting more minutes also is ideal as well.

Yes I do. Barring any injuries they're a great combo and I don't see that changing during the season.

The only thing that's broken around here is the bank with some of these contracts. I guarantee there's teams in tax hell that won't make the playoffs so it was all for nothing for them.
GWR: I'd love to hear what specific teams you're talking about here.

To be honest the Clippers, Pistons, and the Jazz out of the teams who are over $15 million over.

Does your hand hurt from typing out a depth chart?

How many wins will it take to wreck free agency next year?

Not many considering how much overpaying will be going on. Other teams will wreck themselves so I won't really have to worry about wins factoring into anything.

By Jazz I meant the Nuggets. My bad.
