35-36 Pistons Preseason Presser Enough horsepower, ran out of gas

Post by ballsohard »

Balls O'Hard:Good afternoon everyone and thank you for attending. Last seasosn was quite a whirlwind. We started off extremely slow and without an identity. D-Cobb really carried the team to start the season, but after losing 9 straight to start the season- we knew we needed more horsepower. We made trades to acquire Brandon Clarke, Willie J, Glenn Irvine, Elisha Davis and DeAndre Ayton. A lot of our younger talent that people adore so much was spent for these changes. But it ushered in a major era of change for us.

Balls O'Hard:The era of change represents stopping the losers mentality in Detroit. The thought of trying to lose for yet another draft pick, and instead shifts our focus on the near future instead of the distant future to line up all of our cards. Despite making win now moves, that does not mean that we won't need an element of patience in Detroit to start winning. We started behind the 8 ball and it's hard to get our of that position, but we're working to improve that standing.

Balls O'Hard:This offseason we made a move for Derick Hunter who brings a much needed skillset for us. Last season we had gigantic holes in rebounding as well as defense. That along with the continued progression of Davis and Wolfgang, we think the progression along with our addition and having the players for a full season will be a major change. That being said, we do know there are improvements needed to be made for us to be able to truly compete. We will be in the market for upgrades of any kind, but the major area i'd like to focus on is defenders, primarily on the perimeter. Additonally if we could get another point guard, i think we would look into that as well.

Balls O'Hard:With that, ill open it up to question!

The core of Cobb, Jackson, and Clarke have you just about capped out for at least the next three seasons. Do you think that core is good enough to seriously contend for a title within the next few years? What percent chance would you say you give those three of all still being on the roster come the 2037-2038 season?

For the first time since the reshuffle, your division looks mostly competitive. How do you think the Pistons stack up against the ranks of teams like the steadily improving Mavericks, the always-scrappy Pelicans, the re-tooled Heat, the Luka-led T-Wolves, and the developing Raptors?

I think we've seen evidence that by themselves they won't be a powerhouse. However, with the right surrounding group, i do think they have a chance. Which makes my job tougher and much more interesting. I'd say the chances of 2/3 being on the roster are at about 75%. All 3- probably closer to 25-50%. Thank you for the question!

I think the division Rising up is a great thing. We don't shy away from competition at all. Every team in the division is pretty close to the mean. I dont think you'll see any late 60 win teams and i also don't think you'll see any 20 win teams. In terms of where we stack up? I'd say the floor is that middling 3rd to 4th place. Ceiling is probably secocnd place. Dallas has a fantastic team that causes problems for us.

What's the better iconic Detroit food: Coney Dogs or Detroit-style Pizza?
