34/35 Clip City PSPC

Post by MexicanMamba »

Last season was pretty exciting, until it wasn't anymore. Not just losing the Finals when we felt pretty good about our chances, but the manner in which we got the light stomped out will probably always make me shudder. Definite props and respect to the team up north, they came in with the talent and coaching gameplan edge and roughed us up.

The highlights were plentiful, highlighted by the #1 seed, another Boban MVP and All-League season, and getting Glen Sabo in the All-Star/All-League conversation as well.

But, it was the loss that shaped how I decided to go at this season. I considered blowing it up after the season, and honestly if we had won the championship I would have gladly done so. Getting so close made me want to go at it at least one more time. So, I did what any logical person would do ... I went and got the guy who lit us up in the Finals.

Enter: BDJ

He's been around a long time so I don't need to talk him up. Just know we're excited to have him and to see how he can elevate the offense to greater heights. To get him we had to let go of Baratheon and Kirkendall, however we were able to nab a great backup Big in UFA to cover the loss of Kirk and obviously BDJ more than fills the loss of Joffery.

My guess is the questions that'll come are about the upcoming tax and TC. Well, just know that I see it, acknowledge it, understand it. I just am not all that worried about it. I'll figure it out when I need to figure it out. As for TC, hey, I've got some older guys so they'll naturally regress but they're still studs and I have no doubt they'll continue to play as such. Sabo had another great camp though which was exciting to see and is becoming a monster at both ends of the court.

I am ready for the season to start. I'll have my eyes wide open for any potential deals to make to upgrade my roster throughout the season. I miss you, Carl Howard . Let's get to work on getting another shot at winning it all.

Now, ask your questions.

A move you didnt mention above was bringing in Richard Kowalczyk another former King who is looking for back-to-back rings - what contribution do you see Special K bringing to the table this season?

He was briefly mentioned, just not by name because it was like 4AM and I didn't feel like looking up the spelling of his name. However, I envision him in the same role that Kirkendall played last season. While Boban and Sabo are All-League performers, they obviously can't play 48 minutes a night. So, K can man those backup minutes at each spot and give a strong interior scoring presence and block some shots without having a massive drop-off.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Last season, you decided to tackle the playoffs with only 8 active players on your roster. This season, you're balancing your tax bill against having a more fleshed out roster with role players that'll give your aging starters a rest. What kind of balance between tax bill and full roster are you looking to strike by the trade deadline?

You're in a tough division with the Bulls, and I figure either you or them will make the Finals. Who do you think in the Alpha conference will be matching up with either of you in the finals?

I can promise that the roster will not be at 15 by the time the deadline hits. I filled it for now in case I need pieces for another trade, if I can find one. So, ill have my tax bill in mind with future moves but I'll definitely value making championship moves more, or else it was pointless to move on BDJ. Basically, I'm good with the tax bill as long as I can cover it in full or nearly in full by the end of the season.

Its rugged over there in Alpha, that's for sure. The three that pop to me are the squads in Los Angeles, Milwaukee and San Antonio. Stars, depth, talent. If I had to choose one right now, I think I'd go with the Bucks, who may be the best team in the entire league.

Random Reporter: I wanna do something and ask you about your youth. What made Eloy Tilton stand out enough for you to draft him?

Well, I can tell you that the two players that I keyed in on went the two picks before I came up unfortunately so I had to check the list again. Tilton's primary asset? His age. At 18 years old that's 10 training camps he could theoretically be insured and allowed to develop. He won't be needed here for a numbers of seasons anyways and if he develops into anything relatively useful in a few seasons, he can be on-board for the looming rebuild. Or he can be packaged in a trade.

Not yet, but ask me again after a sim or 2 when I implement my own strategy.

BDJ can still dish out dimes with the best of them. Any worry about his scoring punch this year?
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

With Boban, Sabo, Garvin all being/becoming reliable scoring options, I was never really concerned with BDJ's ability to score as much as I was in his ability to set everyone else up. He and Curtin offer great outside shooting to go with the previously mentioned players' ability to bang inside. I'm good with that.

The other great Omega team has to be the Bulls. How do you measure up with them this year?
Somehow I manage.

While I do believe at this point that they're definitely a deeper team than us, I think we're in store for some battles this season (and post-season?). I give them the edge based on their defensive ceiling, but we'll try to make them work this season.
