Pistons Press Conference

Balls O’Hard:
Good morning everyone! It’s good to be back. It’s my goal to practice gratitude at each one of our pressers to show thanks for all the hard work that it takes to put together this league and the participants that make it great. A huge shoutout to Quailman for taking it serious when I said I was considering coming back. He took that and made it actionable and here we are. So thank you buddy. I also wanted to take some time to thank all of the GMs who welcomed me back. JNR, Nola, RPF, Los, 78, Pauly, Angry, Bow, Syndicate and J2. Thank you guys. Oh and our league chef, Louie!

Balls O’Hard:
Another thing I wanted to point out is how good the league looks. Shout out to commish for the hard work in keeping the threads together and welcoming me back. To the team at hand.

Balls O’Hard:
DETROIT BASKETBALL!!! Let’s go my Detroit fam. Let’s start off by being transparent. This rebuild or refresh or whatever we’re calling it these days, is not going to be easy. While we have a fair amount of talent. It’s not exactly aligned. We have a guy who we consider one of the first runners for MVP in Dominick Cobb who we are going to give a chance to lead us to the playoffs and be recognized for that award. We also have John Carter, last year’s rookie of the year coming in ready to contribute even more. After that we’re fluid and we’re going to allow guys to make their mark. Shaffer who’s a seasoned vet will get a first chance at putting as many minutes as his body can stand in our playoff push.

Balls O’Hard:
However, we’re very enamored with the potential of our second year guy Dennis Wolfgang. We think he can and will be an all league talent in the future. We’re also excited for the future of Ferguson Olney who will be a solid scorer and defender in him prime. In terms of where the franchise is going, that’s a tricky question. The market really dictates where we go. We would like to build around our young core, but that would mean that there would have to be a buyers attitude out there. If there isn’t we may need to become that buyer and move our timeline up considerably. Time will tell. With that, I’ll open up the forum to questions.

Again, welcome back brew. You came in at a weird time in the middle of free agency I believe so I assume you've had plenty of time to talk to GMs. Is there anything different you noticed since you were last active?

You're on a path to attempt to win a ring with a 3rd team. I don't know if there's another GM who has even done it with a 2nd team. What do you think about that?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: This isn't your first (or even 2nd) team that you've GM'd. What's the most exciting part of coming back and, conversely, what's the most frustrating part?

I’d say the most prominent thing noticed is all of the new faces and that really is exciting to have new blood in the league. We’ve done a great job at recruiting. I do of course see some of the same struggles with trades and what not but that’s what keeps the league going.

In regards to another ring , the Detroit fans won’t love to hear this, but I’d say just managing a team well is the goal. Striving to get rings and all really made gming not as fun to me. I’ve got my legacy and I feel great about it. Winning in Detroit with this mindset would probably be the most special of them all.

I think the one piece that brought me back was being able to be involved in my friends life in a different level again. I think we’re all to a degree connected and can cal each other friends and in our Gm chat we can talk about a lot , but there was the fiber than connected us missing for me. So just knowing the league from that standpoint and having another commonality is the most exciting part.

As far as frustrating, it’s probably the same things as before. My inner child and competitiveness being upset at some Gms lack of rational (in my eyes). The other thing is the passive aggressive personal shots people like to take. I’m not really here for that and I have to reel back myself sometimes too admittedly because sometimes it’s weaves into competition.

If you win a Title in Detroit Do you feel that you should be know a the greatest GM in SLOE? you would be the only GM to win a title with 3 different franchises.

GWR: building off of the last question, you were seen as a hyper competitive GM in your early years but mellowed out as time went on. Does that sorr of title mean anything to you anymore?

What would be the most realistic goal you could see this team accomplishing this year ahead?

John Carter is starting to look like a future All-Defense and DPOY candidate - how do you intend to develop his offensive game to make him a more well-rounded player?

I’m not sure variety necessarily is a plus or a minus. I know I’m one of the greatest ever and I’m also ok knowing that there was a difference between the beginning years and now which is more recreational. I’m rooting for the league to be better than ever and see some other GMs do great things. If we get on a good run and knock down a few championships on the way- I’ll be very happy !

Titles always mean something to me. Really in the past a title has been more of a relief than a joy. I’d like to actually reverse that feeling.

Playoffs is probably the peak of what we can do, but even that looks bleak. We need to be patient to make sure we’re getting guys that fit the mold rather than just talent.

He really looks more like John Wick on defense, doesn’t he? I think he has a good shot at being on second or third leading scorer on our team. Ultimately I see him as our defensive leader who shouldn’t be ignored on offense.

Welcome back to the league, Ballsohard. Looking forward to competing with you!

While the Pistons are building, do you think your rookie Olney will see the floor a lot this year? Would you put him in the convo for ROTY?
Somehow I manage.
