I had some thoughts on this...some before quarantine even happened.
1. In general, I probably have the time to sim every business day if we do shorter sims.
2. In general, I think that after trade deadline, we could definitely speed things up...I do like having extra time to discuss trades.
3. I think anything we do during quarantine is probably going to carry over. Generally, I've had more work since having to work from home because it's not as easy for me to get things done from home as it is in the office and the uncertainty of the economy means I have more time sensitive changes to code.
4. I don't want to speed things up too much to the point where we're in the offseason more than the regular season. Sometimes the breathing room is nice, and I think there is a thing as going too fast.
Generally, I'm on the same thought process here. The regular season takes about 1 month IRL, then playoffs 1-2 weeks, then off-season 2-2.5 weeks. I think this is crucial to maintain this 2-month full league year schedule.
What would a schedule look like:
To maintain this while doing business daily sims, we would need to essentially divide 12 (15-ish days each sim, then last two sims are 10 days each) sims into 22-23 sims (7 or 8 days per sim for the 1st 20, then either 10 each for last 2 OR 7-ish each for the final month). Now this sounds like a burden to people in terms of more inputting or DC submission, you could skip every other sim (aka same) and you would be getting the same output that you would with our current sim schedule in terms of your work effort.
Current:
Sim 1 - End of Oct-Nov 15
Sim 2 - Nov 16-Nov 30
Sim 3 - Dec 1-Dec 15
Sim 4 - Dec 16-Dec 31
Sim 5 - Jan 1-Jan 15
Sim 6 - Jan 16-Jan 31
Sim 7 - Feb 1-Feb 14
Sim 8 - Feb 15-Feb 28/29
Sim 9 - Mar 1-Mar 15
Sim 10 - Mar 16-Mar 31
Sim 11 - 1st half of Reg Season April
Sim 12 - 2nd half of Reg Season April
Proposed:
Sim 1 - End of Oct-Nov 7
Sim 2 - Nov 8-Nov 15
Sim 3 - Nov 16-Nov 22
Sim 4 - Nov 23-Nov 30
Sim 5 - Dec 1-Dec 7
Sim 6 - Dec 8-Dec 15
Sim 7 - Dec 16-Dec 22
Sim 8 - Dec 23-Dec 31
Sim 9 - Jan 1-Jan 7
Sim 10 - Jan 8-Jan 15
Sim 11 - Jan 16-Jan 22
Sim 12 - Jan 23-Jan 31
Sim 13 - Feb 1-Feb 7
Sim 14 - Feb 8-Feb 14 (All-Star)
Sim 15 - Feb 15-Feb 21 (Trade Deadline)
Sim 16 - Feb 22-Feb 28/29
Sim 17 - Mar 1-Mar 7
Sim 18 - Mar 8-Mar 15
Sim 19 - Mar 16-Mar 22
Sim 20 - Mar 23-Mar 31
Sim 21 - Apr 1-Apr 6 OR Apr 1-Apr 10
Sim 22 - Apr 7-Apr 12 OR Apr 11-Apr 20(ish)
Sim 23 - Apr 13-Apr 20(ish) OR No Sim 23
Pros vs Cons:
Pros - Opportunity to play with gameplan (fun lineup changes or more specifically against teams) without committing so for 15 days of a season; Season duration lasts just as long as if no change occurs; D2D players can come back sooner instead of sitting on IR for a full sim (get players back quicker in your rotations without potential risk of re-injury while playing on D2D status)
Cons - More inputting; change to long standing schedule overall
DC Participation:
DC participation could be loosened up a bit too, that way if you wish to follow the old submission schedule of MWF, you wouldn't be penalized for missing Tues/Thursday DC submissions. We could give an extra bonus if you submit EVERY DC. Or we can eliminate DC participation all together, but I like points so I'd rather not do that.
