Rockets Preseason Presser

Post by 78# »

Hello everyone.

Last season was a good season winning 53 games and losing a very tight first round series against a very good Mavericks team. Check that, we lost to the refs who called a freaking fall with 3 seconds left in the game. Who does that? Anyway, that's life.

This offseason we came in trying to improve the roster with the added cap space in free agency. With the draft, we had a late first round pick and we got Clarence Reyes from Vanderbilt. We like his length, his athleticism and potential to score. He needs to get stronger if he wants to get playing time, but we do like his potential long-term.

With restricted free agency, we sent several bids and we signed both Jordan Johnson and Chris Guyer. Unfortunately bot deals were matched by incumbent teams.

In unrestricted free agency we still plenty of cap room to make further moves. We sent several bids and landed multiple big men in Dragan Bender, Eldridge Candelaria, Modestine Degrimonpon, and Michael Essex.
Training camp went very well overall. Mostly everyone improved or maintained
Our DC will look like this:

Center - starting Dragan Bender with Candelaria as the backup
Power Forward - Modestine Degrimonpon and James Freeman as the backup
Small Forward - Oliver Dennis with Rich Paul as the backup
Shooting Guard - Hollis Wiley with Rich Paul as the backup
Point Guard - Antonio Copeland with Mad-Dog Manis as the backup

We feel excited for the upcoming season and hope we can build off of last season. Thank you. We're taking questions now.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Degrimonpon has been shipped around the league and never really found a solid role for himself. What impressed you about him enough to give him the starting job with so many other capable bigs on your team?

He really improved a lot in TC. He really has the total package with his quickness, strength, scoring, rebound and post defense and had a really strong preseason. We think he and Dragan can give most frontcourts problems.

Your division features several quality bigs so how do you think your new frontcourt stacks up against the competition?

We plan to win a war of attrition, strengths in numbers. We're not great, but we're deep.

You've made the playoffs sixteen (!!) seasons in a row. Is the expectation that to continue the streak this season?

We normally expect to make it each year, but our team is really unknown. Chemistry and talent are issues, but I think we will sneak in.
