The camera focuses on an intricate sand mandala style piece of the Bulls logo with members of the championship team in various shots around it:
Patrick Edmunds hitting the buzzer beating three point shot to steal away an Orlando Magic three-peat.
Daniel Bowens swatting away a shot.
Ben Simmons pulling down a board in the conference finals (if you can't beat em, sign em, right?).
Andrew Wiggins shutting down Joshua Jackson with his frustrating length and defensive prowess.
Clemente Torres fouling out.
Wanderlei Silva kissing the Finals MVP trophy.
And then...
United Center staff equipped with pushbrooms come out and clear a path through, sweeping away the sand designs to create an aisle for the members of the Bulls still left celebrating...GM Garbageman, Laurence Curtin, Michael Manis, Hyman Low, and, of course, Silky Johnson. They're the only remaining members of the 2031-2032 championship Bulls.
They approach a press area with 5 chairs set up in front of 5 mics. Garbageman sits in the center chair with Silky to his right and Hyman Low to his left. Michael Manis sits next to Silky, and Laurence takes the last seat next to Hyman Low.
garbageman: Before I welcome you all to this press conference, I want to say not only how proud I am of these guys here, but Wanderlei, Patrick, Danny Bowens, Wiggins, everyone on the team who put in years of work to get to the Finals--twice--and win a championship in one of the most incredible series in PBSL Finals History. The Magic had some major injuries, but even without Boban, they were an incredible team capable of winning a third championship. Both teams played hard, and in the end, it was us--Patrick Edmunds with that clutch shot to turn the tide and silence the Orlando fans. It's a moment that will probably never be topped in franchise history.
The reporters and the crowd break into applause, and the panelists wave and smile. Garbageman continues.
garbageman: Trading Wanderlei and Patrick away was hard to do, but it wasn't a hard decision to make. With other teams going all in to get stronger and a repeater tax bill coming up, we had won our championship, and setting up the franchise for ongoing success was preferable to trying to win without the ability to add on any more depth. Ben and Wiggins and Bowens moved on, and we were happy to keep Hyman Low, who will take on more of a leadership role with this squad.
Hyman Low: I'm glad we won that ring last year. My body's feeling it how hard we worked.
garbageman: At first, I thought we would aim for a full rebuild around Silky, but after getting back talented veterans like Michael Williams and Domantas Sabonis along with young pieces on the trade market--and after looking at the rest of the conference, even with fewer playoff spots--we felt we could compete.
Silky Johnson: Damn right. I want to win another one here!
garbageman: So while we're excited about developing Jame Hector, Daniel Loredo, and Jack Fredericks for continued success, we also brought back Keith Pfeffer, who will serve a backcourt leadership role, and finally ended up with Charlie Porter again. We'd been targeting Charlie in free agency but couldn't come to a multi-year deal he would take (or one we could offer). We also brought in Jack Clemente and Carlton Gamble, who we expect to get some nice contributions from. Lastly, we brought back Michael Manis and Laurence Curtin--and while we might not be the strongest team out there, we think we're good enough to turn a lot of heads and show everyone what a proud, well-run franchise is able to do, even without a 200 million dollar superteam payroll. Now, if you have any questions for me--or Michael or Laurence or Hyman or Silky, feel free to ask away.
