Pistons Pre-Season Press Conference

Post by Wombataholic »

Good morning and thank you for joining us.

Last season went ok. We won 51 games and forgot to reactivate Stephen Keitt for games 3 and 4 of the first round of the playoffs, which leads me to our new team motto: "Half-asleep at the wheel."

Going into the offseason, we wanted to bring back James O'Connor and maybe trade him. We gave him a 5-year supermax with a team option.

Continuing our tradition of signing green potential guys to around $10 million per year who then get hit in training camp, we signed Aaron Pastor to be an undersized SF.

We didn't have our first round pick this year as the result of the trade that brought us Lorenzo Fultz (another member of the illustrious "Get Paid $10 million a Year and Stop Giving a Sh*t Club"). Gregory Payne joined the club this year too.

Our starting lineup will probably be some combination of Keitt, O'Connor, Pastor, Davis, and Woodson.

Pencil us in for around 50 wins, 3rd place in D-6 and another first round exit.

I'll open the floor to questions.

Random Reporter: It seems like there's a feeling of restlessness this season with the team seemingly churning out similar results every year. With that being said, do you see yourself actively looking to shake things up via trades, or are you content to stay the course and look towards the playoffs once again?

At this point, the amounts that Davis, O'Connor and Keitt are being paid make it difficult to acquire additional talent. Their collective talent is enough to get us into the playoffs for the next few years, thus putting our draft picks into the 20's.

At the moment, the plan is to ride this core through the 2029 season, then reload with another group or rebuild from scratch, since we'll likely be in tax hell at that point.

As a team that has been the epitome of stability, how do you feel about your new conference? Do you see any new rivalries starting up?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: If you're predicting another 1st round playoff exit this year, that seems like a resignation to this core's championship window having closed. If that's the case, has there been any thought to testing the trade market now to avoid high tax bills and perhaps get a head start on rebuilding by cashing in your assets before their juiced dry?

I believe that the 76ers and Magic will have a fun rivalry going forward within our division. Both teams are well run and consistently competitive.

I think 20 points and 10 rebounds sounds about right.
