Awards Nomination Points Revamp

Post by garbageman »

The awards nominations have really been kind of tapering off lately, and it seems like a lot of the same people year after year nominating themselves for a point grab. I've got a couple of simple suggestions that could hopefully inject some more activity...

1. No more self-nominations.

2. Everyone can nominate one other person per category, and each nomination that finishes in the top 3 of voting gets the nominator a point.

I like this suggestion. I might would add a timeline to this idea so that if someone thinks they should win the award and is not nominated, then the last 24 hours self nominations can happen. If that person gets top three, the self-nomination does not earn an extra point.

I'm going to say the only award I see self-nomination restrictions needed are GMOY. The reason being is I don't look at other teams and try to figure out who their most improved players are and who the best 6 man is in the league. I generally let the self-nomination guys inform me on these matters.

GMOY I usually know who I feel has my vote with or without nominations.

I think these are the worst offenders. The stats on all of them seem pretty much meaninglessly the same, except for one standout (usually the computer 6MOY campaigning for more 6MOY points).

Ideally, I'd rather nix those two awards if we can replace them with more fun backstage stuff (e.g. Meme of the year?)

I’d love to see 6th man and mip disappear. I’d also love to see someone win coach of the year. And something fun like meme of the year.
