TrayWithAnAMA - The 2020 Lakers Presser

Post by TrayWithAnA »

This is Tray. I am kind of new around here. Ask me anything.

All questions require one update on the way we are playing this game now...

Why?

It's now a standard that when you trade away the MVP you take on a needless player and contract and PAY 10 points for the other team to "absorb" that MVP contract.

How do you feel about the Lakers youth prospects and the talent that’s been accumulating? Does it remind you of the Jazz who have stockpiled and have been blessed by good TCs with their young guys?

Points are more valuable now and are no longer considered toss-ins for trades. With luxury tax and trainings, the league has picked up on the fact that a healthy bank balance is key to sustaining a winning team.

Double update: Doug is still as thirsty as ever

What are your thoughts on the Giannis trade that was made in your absence?

We have MLE Contracts now, which are slightly complicated to figure out, but ultimately can help push a competing team over the edge.

In all honesty, I missed the distraction. I couldn't handle risking it with my final few blocks of classes, and that was my main reason for ducking out before. Over a two year period, I lost the love of the game due to many, many, many competing priorities. A newborn. School. A new job. All of these things pulled me away from a game and group of comrades which I loved so much.

A lot of those things have gotten better. The newborn is now a 2-year old. I graduated last month with my MBA. The new job has turned into two other new jobs. This last one has an office which makes it easier to participate.

So to answer your question, I am back because I am BACK. I hope to carve out some time to post and enjoy what made this so much fun before.

In all honesty, I haven't gotten a chance to dive into the roster yet. I am hoping to get that opportunity tonight. I hope it is as described. Growing a young team in a rebuild is way more fun that growing an old/expensive team in a rebuild. I'm not sure how far off we are yet. Going to be a lot more losses in the future, but hoping I can find that 90s grove again.

When a strong GM like myself steps down to make way for weaker GMs to take over in his place, things like this happen. It is the nature of the game. People don't realize the treasure that future hall-of-famers are until they ship them out of town for nothing. That is when those weaker GMs disappear. I'd look at those LA-Giannis fans for this mysterious disappearance first and foremost. Not a smart move.

Congrats on all of your recent accomplishments, Tray. That sounds like a fantastic past 2 years.

P.S. I only posted "why?" to take a shot at a certain GM bending over a certain new GM. :D

Glad you are back.

We’re keeping our eye on Steve Smith’s offspring. Possibly contemplating cloning in the next draft. Believe me, I have DNA samples saved away in the personal TWA safe.

Training Camp was very good to our team this year with a total jump of almost 192 points. Finishing the Training Camp with eight players at green/green or better. The biggest question mark was our Greg Monroe signing which managed to be ok at least in the first season due to him avoiding the hammer of the TC gods. Resigning Tristan Bosworth for a team-friendly deal was a good result too.

All-in-all, free agency and training camp kept this team competitive. In addition to that, preseason looked pretty strong. That being said, preseason success and a dollar can buy you a cup of coffee. Nasty gas station coffee at that.

Any questions on the return.

Damion Williams has developed into a real stud in a short period of time. Do you think last season's 29.7 PPG average was a fluke, or do you think he can actually top 30 PPG this season? Also, how long would it take for you to cut your grass if you used only a pair of scissors?
