The Chicago Bulls would like to add Boris Hailey to the list of nominees for sixth man of the year.

While other sixth man candidates might look better by the numbers, Boris was a main contributor to the success of the Chicago Bulls. He played in all 82 games (starting 9 in place of Vernon Desantis who was injured a couple times early in the season), and while he might have only put up 8.6 points in 23 minutes, his defensive contributions were very noticeable. With 6.8 boards and an incredible 2.5 blocks per game, he protected the paint and did plenty of dirty work for the second unit.

Where he really shines is his advanced metric stats. His PER was 20.7 with 9.6 EWA. A 56.4 win Bulls team wouldn't be nearly as impressive. I also want to note that his 2.6 assists per game in 23 minutes are pretty remarkable for a C/PF. He posted a 1.63 assist to turnover ratio as a big man. If he was a starter, he'd project to post a double-double average and would be either first or 2nd in the league in blocks.

In any case, I will be sad to see Boris Hailey sign a big, multi-year contract that I can't afford next year, but by god, he's earned it.

I'll nominate a guy who has been a pleasant surprise for me this season - Andrew Aleman. He got a handful of starts when Harland Ellinger was injured, but spent most of the season as my third guard behind Randle/Ellinger. He did a nice job in the combo guard role, posting 10.8 ppg, 4.0 apg, and a low 1.5 turnovers per game. He's been solid for me all season and deserves at least consideration for the award.
