Welcome to the call for nominees to the People’s Basketball Sim League Hall of Fame. The rules are simple. Nominate a player you think deserves to be mentioned among the greatest players to play in this league. Championships, all-star appearances, funny picture blogs: all of these things could mean enough to warrant a nomination. There’s only one requirement: the player has to be retired from the PBSL. There is no time restriction on retirement – as soon as a player retires, they are eligible for the HOF.

So what’s to stop you from just sending Arnett Moultrie to the Hall of Fame because you like his name? Well, first of all, he’s not retired yet, so you’re clearly not paying attention. But what else is going to stop you? I am.

I will review the nominations and put out a ballot of those I think qualify to be elected to the Hall. And then you vote on those players to see if they get enshrined.

-Nominees on the ballot with over 75% yes votes get into the HOF
-Nominees on the ballot with over 50% yes votes (but under 75%) are automatically considered for next year's ballot ("free" nomination that doesn't cost any owner a yearly nomination).

Nominations will be open until the end of the playoffs. I will then create polls for the nominated players that will be open for a determined time.

I'm going to nominate Chauncey Billups because why the hell not. The dude seemed to have a pretty damn stellar career, especially between 2003-2009 when he would average 17.28 PTS, 7 assists, and roughly 3.5 rebounds per game. Furthermore, he had a dynamite A/T ratio that I don't want to calculate because it's too much work, but take my word for it, even though I wasn't here to see him play, the dude seemed to be legit as shit.

We all know the story of his demise, but let's not forget that at his peak, Dwyane Wade was one of the best guards in SLOE. He was also a winner.

Starting with his sophomore season, his teams made the playoffs 7 years in a row en route to not1not2 but 3 PBSL championship rings and one playoffs MVP. In fact, if you discount his rookie year, his teams only missed the playoffs 4 times in his career.

He was a very scary 2-way guard in our league who played both the 1 and 2 and yet still posted a combined .600+ TS% over his first 9 seasons while playing suffocating defense. He made 5 all star games, 4 All-NBA teams and 2 all-defense teams, and probably would have more accolades had some forwards not played overlapping careers at the guard spot.

He was the ultimate team player, and not a stats-first guy as evidenced by his career average 23.1 usage rate. But he was one of the best winners our league has ever seen, and he certainly deserves a place in our Hall of Fame.

I would like to nominate Mo Cheeks to HOF. Because he just got elected to the IRL HOF. And he left a 20+ season-long impact in the Cheeks-Flemming Act. His contribution in that regard lasted longer than anything Shawn Kemp or Penny did.

I am here today to nominate one of the top 3 retired players in Sim League History not in the Hall of Fame: Paul Pierce. Paul Pierce will forever live with a bad reputation because he failed to win a Championship or an MVP. Usually in sim league, that combo leaves you out of the Hall of Fame. But it shouldn't for Paul. Paul wasn't just a great player who made a bunch of All Star Games: Paul Pierce was a dominant Sim League player who, if it weren't for his prime coinciding with Tim Duncan and Tracy McGrady's prime, would have a couple of MVPs and maybe championships added to his resume.

Paul didn't start his career the way many in sim league do, riding the bench or getting a bunch of minutes because they're on a tanking team. In Pierce's rookie year, he was scoring 13 points with 5 rebounds on a TS% of 54% and a 16.5 PER. He wouldn't have another season with a PER under 20 for 10 years. By his 3rd year, Pierce was scoring 20 points per game, a feat he reached 9 straight years, only 3 of which featured averages below 25 PPG. During that stretch, Pierce was a top 10 scorer 8 times, including 4 top 5 scoring seasons, 3 of which, he placed in the top 3. Twice in his career, Paul Pierce was the second highest scorer in PBSL. Pierce didn't just score in volume, he did so efficiently, approaching a TS% of 60% in his prime. For his career, he had a 56.1% TS% with a PER of 23.2.

But Pierce's season that stands out above all the rest is his 2003 masterpiece, where the only thing that stood between him and an MVP was Tim Duncan's 31 point-10 rebound season. For reference of just how dominant he was both in his prime, but particularly in 2003, here are the stat lines for the likely 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the MVP that year:

Player A: 30.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.5 blocks, 59.0% TS%, 32.5 PER
Player B: 29.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.9 blocks, 58.1% TS%, 32.2 PER

Both incredibly good seasons, but edge to player A right?

Player A: Paul Pierce
Player B: 25 year old Tracy McGrady

That's right, Paul Pierce captured the elusive season of both 30 points per game and a PER over 30. And he wasn't just an offensive player. In 2002, Pierce placed on the second team all-defensive team. In both 2002 and 2003, he averaged 2 steals per game.

Paul Pierce is one of the greatest players in sim league history, with a career average of 20 points per game, a PER over 20, and ranking 34th in the all time scoring list. He's a 7-time All Star, a 2-time First Team All NBA player, 1-time Second Team All NBA player with 19 player of the weeks and 7 player of the months. In short, Paul Pierce was an elite player in our league for a long time. In addition to that, he had a stretch of being a top 3 player in our league. I hope you help me add Hall of Famer to Pierce's list of accomplishments.
