2019-20 Strength of Schedule Review - Down the Stretch

See the SOS spreadsheet above.

What do we learn from this? Well, a few things.

1. The 76ers are even better than we think they are.
Philly 'only' has the 4th best record in the league, but they've had the hardest strength of schedule thus far, and have the easiest strength of schedule for the rest of the season. I, for one, would not be surprised if they had home-court throughout the playoffs when all 82 games are done and played.

2. The Wizards might be in trouble.
During the Horns and Fangs podcast I sat it on, we were asked to handicap the last couple of Eastern Conference playoff spots. The Wizards currently sit in the 7th spot, but are only 2.5 games from being out of the dance altogether. They have the second toughest schedule down the stretch, but it is home-heavy. A huge majority of their 27 losses have come against +.500 teams, which doesn't necessarily bode well for their record when all is said and done.

3. The Southwest and Northwest divisions should go down to the wire.
The Rockets have the upper hand in the SW, but the Mavs have one of the easiest schedules down the stretch. This division could very well come down to the last day of the season. In the Northwest, the three-legged race doesn't become any more clear with this data. None of the teams have a ton of home games left, all three are in the top half of easiest schedules thus far. This is going to be a fun one.

I'll refresh this to reflect today's sim later this afternoon. This is as of prior to the sim...

The link is now updated as of the latest sim. How'd I do on my predictions?
1. 76ers better than I thought they were?
This one is inconclusive. Philly had an up and down March, but ultimately only lost 5 games this month. 2 of them were by 1 point, 1 was to AD, and the other two can be chalked up to their elite players getting into foul trouble and not staying on the court. Maybe Philly is just exactly as good as they appear - which is really good. They still have the easiest schedule down the stretch, so while they may not pass the Pistons or Hawks, I think they'll improve their Win%

2. Wizards in trouble?
Well, they definitely didn't have a great month record-wise. They benefit, however, from their competitors being even worse. They may fall into the 8th seed, but at this point it's more about who they'll get to lose to in the playoffs.

3. Southwest and NW to the wire?
Southwest - I called that the metrics favor the Mavs, and that's what it's looking like...
NW - A tough injury to Portland and a string of head-scratching losses by the Timberpups have almost put this race to bed...
