Retirement

Post by TheSyndicate »

This is a sad day. But, I'm resigning as owner/GM of the Nuggets effective at the start of the next regular season. I had hoped to wait until there was a robust waiting list so as not to leave a hole, and I even reached out to some folks that had posted in the sign up thread to see if they wanted to take my team with me potentially staying on as a mentor, but to no avail.

There are some that will say that this is because of the (B)ass Tax situation this year. There are some that will say that this is because of my disdain for the fake players. There are some that will say this is because of 4 years in a row of major injuries. There are some that will say this is because of Klaymageddon. There are some that will say this is because of 5:00:36. You're all wrong. Though I've thought about quitting after all of these situations (and moreso the callous reactions to them by my friends and 'friends' alike), I really gave some time to think about this, and at the end of the day, I just haven't had fun in a few seasons, and that's what this is all about.

I could lie and say this is about my new job, or dedicating time to a new marriage, or a crazy travel schedule, but it's really that it hasn't been as fun lately. Some say I take this too seriously, and that's probably true, but that's what made it so unbelievably fun for me during the good times, and it's what has made it so not fun now. So why spend time on something that doesn't bring you joy anymore? I could also remain as a somewhat absentee owner, but that doesn't seem fair either. So thanks for the good times, and let's be honest, I'll probably be back. See y'all on skype!

Some housekeeping:
1. I'll catch up media points shortly, and hopefully today in between flights.
2. I'll retain the Nuggets through the off-season assuming there's not a new GM to take my place with the goal of setting the franchise up for the future and will make sure the point bank is right before mosey-ing on.
3. Some 'Thank-yous':
Doug - for introducing me to this crazy world
Todd - for showing me how many Torchy's cookie balls it's possible to eat
Tray - for taking Allan Houston, team killer for all those picks
Raby - for lending an ear and your friendship when it was needed
Scott - for being a non-bias go-to to discuss potential trades with, and 'golf balls, right?'
Tani - for all the trolls, talks, and the NCAA tournament (you know what I mean)
Geoff - for being the first person I saw on this forum that made me go 'oh this shit is insane'
LoCo - for pop-culture, salary unloads, and really good trade talks over the years
Nick - for my first ring
Conroy - for gambling talk and my second ring
Logan - for KG
Chad - for politics, laughs, and rondo
J2 - for bannerz
Ed - for almost getting Klay, and then making me wish I had Buddy
Josh - for letting me crash your podcasts
Wig - for repping SoCal solo while I'm gone
Andy - for a new fun pick'em format
The Messis - for getting my hopes up in trade talks
Ben - for remembering college via your stories
78 - for not quitting yet
Carlos - for the SLOE awards (which really need to be brought back)
FTB - for representing that Chad wasn't in the Midwest dominating my face off for the last million seasons
Anyone I forgot - for making the league a fun, significant part of my life for the last 3 years.
6 Rings. That's it. That's the tweet.

Really sad to see this, and i was in this same position about 3 seasons ago (before Ken Ben). I wish we could have talked through this first, but ultimately i respect your position and i personally welcome you back. Thank you for being a better friend to me than i was to you at times, and thank you for being one of the few trade partners willing to discuss deals. I’mextremely happy for your personal life, the new apartment, the marriage and new job. I personally welcome you back anytime. We need competitive folks like you to drive this league forward.

I didn’t always agree with you on your sim-personal situations and often think you took them really personally, but who am i kidding; we all do it. Hopefully you recharge your batteries and come back soon!

Drag that you're going, but maybe a change of scenery would be nice. I hear the Clippers are open, and with 3 more years of Durant, maybe your friend BRyan wants to waltz in and land a team with a bona-fide purple player.

Peace, Ryan. Hope you can come back by the next baseball season so we can talk about how the Yankees and Dodgers will meet each other in the World Series next year.
